¿Existe un pacto entre la vida y la muerte?
Is there a pact between life and death?
Mis pensamientos vuelan en torno a esta pregunta mientras escucho al sacerdote dar su sermón. Habla sobre la vida terrenal, la muerte y la vida eterna. ¿Qué es la vida eterna?, me pregunto, ¿Vida después de la muerte?
My thoughts fly around this question as I listen to the priest give his sermon. He talks about earthly life, death and eternal life. What is eternal life, I wonder, life after death?
El eco retumbante y el aire frío que se cuela por entre los vitrales del recinto me eriza la piel. La pregunta sigue rondando "un pacto entre la Vida y Muerte".
The echoing echo and the cold air seeping through the stained glass windows of the room makes my skin crawl. The question still haunts me, "a pact between Life and Death".
She's the daughter of the life
Día a día vivimos nuestra vida: nos levantamos, hacemos nuestros oficios, comemos, trabajamos, vamos a dormir y repetimos. Tal cual vez variamos la rutina. Y el tiempo pasa. Transcurre un día. Y el Final está allí, esperándonos, sonriendo y viéndonos hacer, deshacer, reír y llorar mientras Ella toma té y charla con la Vida acerca de la eternidad y de muchas almas que han visto pasar.
Day by day we live our lives: we get up, we do our jobs, we eat, we work, we go to sleep and we repeat. Perhaps we vary the routine. And time goes by. A day goes by. And the End is there, waiting for us, smiling and watching us make, unmake, laugh and cry while She drinks tea and chats with Life about eternity and the many souls they have seen pass.
La Vida y la Muerte disfrutan de una tarde mientras negocian el tiempo de cada uno. Ninguna se apresura, cada cual se toma con calma la tarea mientras disfrutan ver pasar el desfile de almas alegres, tristes, enojados, cantando... Hasta que, de cuando en vez, de vez en cuando, la Muerte se levanta de su silla, extiende sus largas y frías manos y toma de la Vida el alma previamente negociada.
Life and Death enjoy an afternoon as they negotiate each other's time. Neither rushes, each takes it easy as they enjoy watching the parade of happy, sad, angry, singing souls pass by.... Until, from time to time, from time to time, Death rises from his chair, stretches out his long, cold hands and takes from Life the soul previously negotiated.
Es entonces cuando la Vida hace una pausa desde su silla, se mueve lentamente, se acomoda de nuevo y... sigue en lo suyo. Se torna algo pesada mientras toma un sorbo más de su té y, a veces, tiene que levantarse y mover de su sitio a ciertas almas que se han quedado pasmadas con la aparición de la Muerte tan cerca de ellas. Y luego vuelve a sentarse junto a su mejor amiga y siguen charlando, riendo, tomándose de las manos y planificando su siguiente intervención.
It is then that Life pauses from its chair, moves slowly, settles down again and.... goes about her business. She becomes a little heavy as she takes one more sip of her tea and sometimes has to get up and move certain souls who have been stunned by the appearance of Death so close to them. And then she sits back down next to her best friend and they continue to chat, laugh, hold hands and plan their next intervention.
And she's the lost daughter of the death
Muchas veces trabajan juntas cuando algún alma desea encontrarse con la Muerte antes de lo previsto.
Many times they work together when a soul wishes to meet Death ahead of schedule.
Y así laboran las amigas, hermanas, compañeras. Se sientan una junto a la otra a charlar sobre la eternidad y sobre los seres maravillosos que ambas han conocido. Cada una de ellas posee una infinidad de almas consigo. Y, a veces, cuando un personaje de la Vida es asombrosamente fascinante, lo pide para ella la Muerte queriendo coleccionar más almas brillantes en su paraíso personal.
And so work the friends, sisters, companions. They sit side by side chatting about eternity and the wonderful beings they have both known. Each of them has an infinite number of souls with her. And sometimes, when a character of Life is astonishingly fascinating, Death asks for her, wanting to collect more brilliant souls in her personal paradise.
