Rhubie is one my oldest friends yunno, he’s my Gee. I’m not big on friendships, I don’t even like people that much, I can go years without making a new friend. Thing is I’m always meeting new people who like me and want to be friends with me and with whom I want to be friends too, but I’m mostly always too tired to invest in those connections, I’ve pretty much had the same circle of a handful of close friends for years. Most of these friendship started when I got into the university; my childhood friendships didn’t stick.
Rhubie is someone I get lost in little moments with; he holds my hand every chance, gives me squishy hugs and makes me laugh my hearts out. I’m grateful I have him. One thing that has been very beneficial to our friendship is honest conversations. Recently I held a grudge against him because he hurt me, and in my moments of reflection I decided not to hold it against him because there could be a lot more going on that I know and his perspective of the whole situation could be different from the way I understood and interpreted it. So, after we hugged and chatted a little, I went into his kitchen to heat up some bitter leaf soup to eat with eba, he was in the kitchen with me so I decided to bring up the issue of how I felt.

Turned out I made the whole situation about myself as I suspected I did, he didn’t realize what he had done and certainly didn’t mean it. He told me everything that had been going on since the incident and I felt bad for staying mad for so long and refusing to reach out to my friend. He was going through it and could have used his friend though he’s not one to ‘bother’ his friends with his problems. We talked some more about it and smothered it all with more hugs and my heart felt lighter.

We decided to go to the mall close to where he lived to see a movie before I go. On our way to the mall the clouds opened up and blessed us with divine showers. 😂 We got soaked and decided against the movie because it would be too cold in the cinema. We decided to go have some coffee instead to warm up our bodies.
He loves his coffee all black with no additives so he ordered a cup of Americano. I, an unapologetic sweet tooth went with Vanilla Latte. We got some donut and cinnamon rolls to go with it. The coffees weren’t worth it, it tasted bland-ish and lacked the strong coffee taste but we barely cared, it was hot enough and that was enough. I told him all about Hive and how I’m going to write about our day. He was excited for me because I had something I looked forward to doing; such a sweet soul.
Rhubie understands my struggles and general lack of zeal to do life so he encouraged me to channel my energy into consistency; he told me to focus on showing up one day at a time. He encouraged me to show some interest in making my life better. He’s a gem and I love him.🥺
He walked me to the bus stop and we hugged again, I told him I love him and he said he loves me too. 🥰
I hope Rhubie and I stay friends forever. 💞
