I always find that competition gets my creative juices flowing. Especially the competition I have with myself.
Discovering my facepainting passion 2 and a bit years ago, I wanted to see how it is like to tackle a make-up competition with a creative theme:violet. After blue, violet is my favorite color. I just like how it makes me feel when I look at it. There is something noble, royal, glam, mysterious about it.
I created this special look by myself. I handpainted the blouse and the skirt. I took a lightbulb and glued butterflies to it to suggest the way creativity lures us in as the light catches the butterflies.
Of course I had first tried the concept on myself and after that on my model. I would not dare to miss any chance of putting purple on myself.
The competition made me feel alive. I did not stress so much, I just wanted to see how it is. My model was such a cool girl and we got along perfectly. At the end she looked like a little fairy.
I always encourage people to go beyond their comfort zone. Not for money, not for fame, not for validation. Just for themselves. The experience is the prize.
