En torno a este símbolo hay muchas historias o leyendas, que hablan acerca de su origen pero entre las más recurrentes y generalizadas destacan que Fátima, hija del profeta Mahoma, preparaba una comida cuando se enteró de la infidelidad de su marido, triste e indignada, metió la mano en la preparación hirviendo y absorta en su tristeza, revolvió el contenido sin darse cuenta que se estaba quemando.
Around this symbol there are many stories or legends, which speak about its origin but among the most recurrent and widespread are that Fatima, daughter of the prophet Mohammed, was preparing a meal when she heard about her husband's infidelity, sad and indignant, she put her hand in the boiling preparation and absorbed in her sadness, she stirred the contents without realizing that it was burning.

Fátima guardó silencio y se contuvo, ya que en la cultura marroquí, esta permitida la poligamia mientras la pueda pagar; pero su decepción solo se reflejó en una lágrima que brotó de sus ojos, misma lágrima que brotó de los ojos de sus esposo días después, tras embargarse de una tristeza profunda, pues se dio cuenta de todo el daño que le estaba haciendo a su mujer y se deshizo de su nueva concubina. Desde entonces, Fátima se convirtió en un símbolo musulmán de paciencia y abnegación.

Es así como surge este símbolo de protección utilizado alredor del mundo.
