¡Hablemos sobre música y su historia!

Let's talk about music and its history!

I first wish to comment to you that the twentieth century has seen great and rapid changes in world history more than at any other time. It may be due to the dazzling of great technological inventions (cell phones, computers) or certain subtle but important changes that were made by our grandparents and ancestors.
Many of us feel a seemingly natural interest in listening to music from other eras, it seems natural to us, but it really is a relatively new phenomenon dating back to the end of the last century with the advent of European and New World Philharmonic societies. Within these musical societies, great modernized symphony orchestras were born (Vienna Symphony, New York, London.) Designed to supply a market of listeners heirs of the industrial revolution. Making music go from being an exclusive enjoyment of kings and princes to an object of mass consumption in less than 100 years.

In the history of the West, not only popular music but also elite music was an object of consumption. In the times of composers such as Chopin, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Shubert, Liszt, Wagner, until the end of the 19th century, it was inconceivable to listen to music "from another era" because it was not in fashion, so much so that when Mendelsohn re-discovered Bach's music, composed 100 years earlier, and decides to re-build the "passion according to St. Matthew", the event was considered by his contemporaries as an eccentricity.

At the beginning of the 20th century, when Schoenberg composed "Pierrot Lunaire" and Stravinsky premiered "Le Sacre du Printemps" in Paris with great public scandal, the communicational break between Composer, the interpreter the public was already evident Two world wars will accentuate the public's need to almost biologically reject music whose aesthetics reminded them of the harsh reality of the modern world.

When the gramophone is invented and the nascent record companies not very happy about the large income from the consumption of popular music they decide to create the demand for classical music. Since then, classical music has been in vogue partly because of society and also the development of the record market, which, from Toscanini to today, has been transformed. Technology has come to compete with live music. The best performers and orchestras can be heard without leaving home with the push of a button.

In humanity there is a great moment, never before was there so much accessibility of options of knowledge, so much variety of options to do or possess. Being able to learn several languages, exercise various professions, various gastronomic dishes, communicate with opposite poles of the planet; experiencing various realities such as the "virtual". The options of the record market are not far behind. Those who consume classical music have other genres available to them as well. It is strange today to find a person who listens exclusively to Haydn and Mozart and is dedicated to collecting the best recordings of that super important period where the current stereotype of classical music fans is born, it is that of a not very selective consumer, of a limited culture and a contradictory and varied taste. For that character there is not much difference between Pachebel's Canon and Barber's Adagio, even though they are 200 years apart. It is that although few are interested in deepening, either in the appreciation of classical music or in the hermaphroditic reproduction of nautilus, the compilation of information in order to enrich the knowledge of man is an exercise as old as history itself...

Anyway, I have decided to filter, to choose the most important information, the relevant one as a historical fact. In order to understand the purpose of musical art, whose purely physical source is sound, not literary, with the documented information it can be itself anecdotal and alien to the music itself. In fact, the market is much more aimed at encouraging an investigation that reliably confirms the poisoning of Mozart by Salieri, than discovering a missing Concerto for Violin and Orchestra of the Salzburg Genius.
