Add a Bit of Citrus to Your Life

in GEMS3 years ago

I bought some delicious oranges and lemons this week at the grocery store. Truth be told, I pick up a lemon and a lime every week, even if I don't need it. A squeeze of citrus makes a wonderful difference in recipes.

A little hint that I learned: Add a small squeeze of lemon to your rice water, and it will make fluffy rice! I put it on my fresh vegetable to keep their colors vibrant. Use less salt and add a little bit of lemon instead. I think it enhances the flavor.

Water is king! It is such a refreshing drink, but, water with limes, lemons, or oranges (any citrus) and mint is on the fast track for flavor. Even better, it infuses almost right away. I love to infuse different ingredients in my water. Slice the fruit and put it in a container in the refrigerator. fill it with water. It is done. What is your favorite fruit/veggie/ingredient to infuse? Don't forget that you can use many different combinations to keep it fresh until you find one that you love. I like to shift from one to another, until, I eventually go back to citrus and water, it easy and fast. While I would love to credit the photographer on this shot below, it has been copied a million times on the internet and not one person sourced it. So, I found it here My apologies to the photographer.

These different combinations were like sugarplums dancing in my head. I will say I really like the watermelon, although I didn't think I would and the strawberries were yummy! I am a little hesitant on the cantaloupe, but, I will try it, just so I can say I did. Watch it be my favorite. Ha!

I decided to make a potpourri with some fruit. I take out the oranges and lemons, then I cut them up into pieces and put them in a pan. I fill the pan with water, almost to the top. There is something about the inviting scent of citrus, mingling with cinnamon... I know it is not winter here, but, I love the scent of warmth and it makes it feel homey. I know it is not very scientific, but, it gives a calm feeling knowing that when I walk back through that door, I will be met by the scent of heaven. I love it during the holidays, but, honestly, I am always making a homemade potpourri, scenting the house in a most delightful way.

Breathe deeply. Heaven scent.

As always there must be a flower, to color my world. #alwaysaflower And just like that, this post is done. Come back tomorrow and we will do it again.

All I have are my words, armed in my mind, written in pen, stand by stand. Oh, yes. Still by hand. It has a different feel. Altered not by keys, backspace, and delete, I write, erase, tear it to pieces and start all over again. And again.

It’s my way. I walk out to the deep end of the page and dive right in.

The Naming of Cats

The Naming of Cats is a difficult matter,
It isn’t just one of your holiday games;
You may think at first I’m as mad as a hatter
When I tell you, a cat must have THREE DIFFERENT NAMES.

I guess I just go old skool and put in enough lemon juice to curl your hair, then about a quarter pond of sweetener. Both sweet and sour hit your taste buds and they just do cartwheels! Love it!

Old school would be squeezing by hand. I saw your video with that bottled lemon stuff. Which I used to use.

Sure, it’s practically the same—but anyone would know it’s not the real thing. The stuff you squeeze by hand has less time to oxidize and no funny preservatives, which means its flavor is brighter and more pronounced compared to the bitter or muted bottled versions.

Now, I just pick up a lemon every time I go to the grocery. LOL Cartwheels. I will come up and film that just to see that happen. :))

Have a great night!

I always liked cucumber & Mellon Combo🙂

I have never tried that, but, now, I am going to have to! Thanks so much for the idea!

I hope you are having a great weekend!

Lemon and honey is my favourite drink in winter and helps prevent a cold, also a squirt of lemon juice on salad dressing makes so much difference. Finally, sometimes I deliberately don't extract all the juice from the lemon and throw it to the back of the fridge till it completely dries out.

They are so versatile!!

I love lemon and honey!! It does help me boost ban a cold from coming my way and tonight, I used just the lemon on my salad. It really does add such a nice touch.

I have never heard of using it in the refrigerator, but, I will bet it is awesome. I am going to try that! Thanks!

Always good to see you here. :))

The fridge bit is to absorb smell, I'm so lazy I probably don't clean my fridge as often as I should!! The other thing I been doing is to not wash my mug immediately after my lemon and honey drink, add more water to it and let it sit overnight. Works great to get the stains off as I drink a lot of tea.

Me too! And I actually do put the hot water in with the lemon. It is the only thing that really cleans it well. I knew it was to absorb the smell, but, I never thought of doing it and it is brilliant!

Thanks again for that!

How practical and creative all mixed up into a beautiful smell. I burn a couple oil burners filling the air with the smell of lavender, sandalwood, patchouli, orange essential oils. It not only clears the house of any unwanted energies but the also fills my entire smallish home with the best smells, I love it.

For sure! I love orange essential oils and lavender! It really fills my home in the nicest of ways!

I had a habit of burning it on the stove to add moisture in the air when the heat was on in the winter. It added moisture and gave it a homey smell. I love a house that has it gently wafting through.

I hope you are having a great Sunday!
