Late Night Drawing By EdgarsArt Some Deep Thoughts

in GEMS4 years ago

Soon to be 1:00 already. Some people are sleeping while I just started yet another commission drawing.

I have to do this drawing from a wedding on A3 size. I have to finish it by monday and I am also going to be with my girlfriend over the weekend so I will not be able to draw that much, so I have no other option than to draw now. At night.

Well, I have always enjoyed drawing at night.
Between 1 and 4 am is the best time for me. I hit my stride and I draw relentlessly. I only stop long enough to inhale coffee and flex my fingers when they are already too tired, some of my best stuff has come out during this time of night. Especially when I was drawing with charcoal a lot. Those works really were made at night. From 0:00 to 4 am usually.

It probably is a lot to do with focus. I generally tend to skip over details during the day, i do not pay attention to certain things, and I do notice it and try to go back to fix it, but I just can't. But at night, I am more cautious and meticulous when it comes to sketching my lines. It's interesting how focus increases at night when, during the day, we are most attentive and awake.

From my experience a lot of creative people tend to do their best work at night. But, as i have seen and noticed through time, I imagine it has to do with ease of focus more than anything. At night it is easier to ignore all the chores you haven't done, all the noises because there are not really many.

For me it's about focus and relaxation. I have less going on in the evening, so I can relax more thoroughly. I also have less happening around me, no calls, no speaking with me, no stress about missing something important. No calls, no emails, nothing,so there are fewer distractions.

When I'm alone in the house, or have asked for alone time for a project, it seems to work better. Being an artist is really a double edged sword. One time you want to be alone, but the other, you want love and affection.

Due to cultural standards we all have and have learned: the majority of us follow a routine that has us up with the sun and asleep with the moon. That is how we are planning our days. We wake up, go to work or school or the kitchen, and get on with our daily routine. We know when we want to do certain things. Then comes “i am tired,” time and we know that it is time ti get ready for bed. For sleep. So weare feeking sleepy, we have this natural feeling of lets shut off, and then we can go again.
If you dont, then you break the line of this habit and some amazing things can happen and develop.

It’s a routine that has gone on for hundreds of years and influenced how different parts of our brain act during various hours of the day as a result. We know how we should feel at certain times.

I am really used to breaking that habit and I can feel my inner voice asking me:why, this is different. So maybe that is why I can draw now. I am sleepy but still motivated and able to do that.

Let ne know how abd when you are tge most productive.
Is it at night?
Or at the daytime?
