Hola Hivers

Bienvenidos a mi Blog

Hello Hivers

Welcome to my Blog

Today I come to tell you about the "Quinta Mayda" the haunted house of Barquisimeto. Like any town or city, it has legends and curiosities. And I want to tell you about the haunted house of the "Yepes Gil" family. But before I tell you the real history of the house, and also tell you the legends and myths that have been popularly built around it. I want to tell you, that I particularly know the story well because my great-grandmother lived a couple of blocks from that house, even some aunts live in that area of the city, so since I was a child I have heard and experienced the legends of that house.

Let's start with the popular legends .... So much is said about this house that only a couple of stories make any sense. The first one is that it is said that a woman dressed in white appears in the house. The house was built in front of a park called "Ayacucho" and it is said that this woman enters and leaves the park at night.
There is another legend that says that an incredibly big dog comes out... It is also said that there is a tunnel that communicates the house with the park. But it is only a rumor.

When I was a child and we visited my great-grandmother's house we always passed in front of the Quinta Mayda, and like every child I was very curious, but also a little afraid of everything I heard about that house. When my parents took me to the park in front of the house, I avoided going near the street in front of the main entrance, I guess I was not very brave (laughs).
I believe that the legends surrounding the villa are attributed to its state of abandonment and that at some point an atrocious event happened.

I tell you the real story, and although you can find several versions on the internet, I will tell you the version that my great-grandmother told me.

The house was built by a certain Carmelo, who after returning from a trip to Paris had the house built as a replica of a villa he saw on the outskirts of the French capital. He was in love with a Parisian dancer, and built the house for her. But, she apparently came to see the house and to visit this gentleman. But, she went back to her country, never to return.

That depressed that gentleman a lot, and he put that house for rent for the families of money of that time. But the Yepes-Gil family fell in love with the house and bought it, or rather Mr. Yepes bought it as a gift to his wife Yuya.

They named the house Mayda because their third daughter of the same name was born there, if I am not mistaken this happened back in 1935. As time went by, little Mayda grew up in that house, and her marriage was celebrated there, it is said that there were more than 2000 guests.

Shortly thereafter, the man who acted as the butler killed the bricklayer inside the house in a fit of rage.

The family decided to leave to forget about this terrible and dishonorable event. It was in the mid 70's that Doña Yuya returned to the Quinta Mayda and lived there until the 80's, when she returned to her childhood home and left it to her eldest son, Edgar. But he did not live there for long, in the 90's he put it up for sale, but nobody bought it.

He even said that he could not stand living in the house, since he could hear strange noises at night.

I am not very clear if the house has been declared patrimony of the state of Lara, the truth is that it is very deteriorated, at the moment some people live in the house. Some say that they are people who have invaded it, others say that they are people that the family that owns the house have asked to take care of their property.

There are a lot of mysteries around the Mayda fifth...
These photos are recent, I took them with my cell phone a few days ago, as I happened to be passing by on my bicycle. And I admit, it's not as scary as it used to be in my childhood.
