Grain, Strawberries, Sandpoint Idaho - Friday

in GEMS3 years ago

Way early in the morning I was awake and out the door to go get a couple barrels of grain in Spokane. I like the early morning time to drive downtown since the traffic is at a minimum. With the new street layout it makes it a bit tough to fit in the loading zone and have room for cars to go by easily.

On my way home I stopped for some groceries and made it back to the farm before @stryeyz left for work. Once she left I went out and emptied the two barrels into the pen, which the sheep jumped on right away, as per their norm.

Mid day I got into the strawberry rows and picked as many of them that had enough color as I could find. The rows are kinda trashed right now as they are getting filled with grass and weeds. It will be a few days of work just to clear them out and get them back to just strawberries. About a pound though for the first harvest is not bad!

@stryeyz got home from work a bit after 2:00 pm and we were out the door and on the road by about 2:30 pm. It is only an hour drive to Sandpoint from our farm so before 4:00 pm we were checked into our room and then out for food. I had seen on the map that Matchwood Brewing is in the middle of Sandpoint and we had not been to them before.

WELL....

That was a super good choice.

Amazing food, great beer, and a super cool layout and feel to the place. The employees are all super friendly and the food came out quickly.

They have a ton of space in the building and there is a loft area for seating, community room, outdoor seating, and a ton of room for lots of people.

Insanely good food. I ordered the Berry Good salad with Salmon and @stryeyz got the Arugula and Beet salad with Salmon. The rest of the menu looks amazing but damn these salads were incredible. Both of us felt WAY better last night after having the delicious salads for dinner. We got a growler filled with their Hazy IPA before we headed back towards our room.

After a stop at the grocery store and the room we drove the mile to Laughing Dog Brewery to fill our other growler. After a flight of tasters we ended up getting it filled with the Pecan Porter which is just about to die for. Stunningly tasty beer that has an almost desert feel to it. It is dark, sweet, and super pecan-y. You can see just how dark it is, the left glass in the flight.

We have a jacuzzi room and while we had the thing running the mirror in the room fogged up and we found someone had written a note of sorts on it. "EC Hammond, I ♥️ you and I ♥️ your baby girl!" showed up in the fog. At least it was a love note and not something weird.

This morning we went out to get coffee at the stand by the hotel and soon we will be going for food. Connie's is a staple of Sandpoint and has outstanding food. It is THE place we go for breakfasts while here. This afternoon we are planning to wander the city and probably go walk along the lake a bit.

That's the place behind the army surplus store, by the old grain elevator, right?

Yep, which the elevator is now the climbing gym.
