Be aware! A group of spammers is milking Hive rewards!

in GEMS2 months ago

The milking of Hive rewards is not new, but recently I've noticed a large wave of accounts spamming the different micro blogging platforms to milk rewards that I wanted you to be aware of!

There are a lot of different account and most of them are positive about Hive as an investment. They also create blogs about INLEO and SPLINTERLANDS.
Here is a list of authors and titles:

And here are some of the accounts:
utilone20.leo
inleoface
hummerqueen
yuyuhutiin67
georgiapink
cr4zcr4zky
chicpunki
bazilam

The accounts aren't new, all have a Reputation around 50 and seem to mention INLEO.

What they do

Spam Snaps and threads and sometimes create blogs too.
They post about things we like to hear; Positive things about Hive.

Collecting rewards

With the blogs they try to collect upvotes from @leo.voter and @splinterlands and on the microblogging platform they aim for commentrewarder.

A large part is forward to a central account (uyubuzz5) and withdraw to exchange (Orinoco)

I've informed the different teams of this abuse and also Hivewatchers.

What can we do?

Be careful about what you upvote and comment on. Commentrewarder rewards are based on interaction. Downvote the accounts where possible.
Report abuse: https://hivewatchers.io/report-abuse

Keep an eye on these accounts and downvote their posts when they have rewards.

They seemed strange to me too, thanks for letting me know.

Thanks for the heads up as well.

Thanks for the heads-up. Is it possible that their content, posts and comments are all entirely generated by AI-bots ?

I'm hesitant to suggest it because I'm aware it's an arms race with the potential to inflict collateral damage to real users, but could a solution include using a really, really good AI text detector and persuading a couple of key front-ends to show the score next to each post or comment ? There's a place for AI generated content (e.g. for images, for translation to allow posts from people who don't speak English or Spanish to reach a decent audience, or for daily reports on market movements, etc), but having the score there allows users to decide for themselves whether content is worth their vote.

That might be technically a bit difficult. And as AI improves it will probably be harder to detect.

I think the strength of Hive is in the community. We know who posts in our communities and we have to keep an eye on newcomers. Both to help them and detect abuse.

Also funneling rewards to @chicleote it seems.

Nice KE

And a post with some rewards.....

Not for long. Also a HIVE Developer... Impressive!

in leo gives away free accounts and that atracts scum , no surprise there .

I got a reply from georgiapink a few days ago. I have removed the upvote I gave it, and am rethinking my policy of lenience for what I would otherwise consider low-effort replies to short-form content.

Ah, they also comment on posts from others now 😐
I always report them to Hivewatchers and mute them.

When large accounts auto down vote accounts that are proven to abuse the system, they can't make money anymore right?

They withdraw the rewards from that single post. They do have to downvote all the post they create after that too.

I don't think it is strange at all. I do want attention for it, so we can combat these account together. The rewards should go to genuine hivers that put effortbin their posts.

Yeah, but tell me, how it's possible for inactive accounts get reputation over 50 so quickly ? That's because bigger reputation account had voted them, so they are working together to get the rewards, so easy to see.

You get a higher rep by upvotes from accounts with a higher rep.
But the upvotes from commentrewarder, leo.voter and splinterlandbooster might have helped getting a higher rep I think.

Mmm that it's a failure I think, bots should not have reputation itself if that it's the case.

'Those rewards are their's, and they are free do with them as they please.'
OG Hive Curators(with votes large enough to harm the platform)

Smdh, it's no wonder 10 years of curation failure continues to be the status quo.

They aren't actually theirs yet. They are after 7 days. But I get your point. Curation can be done better!

There's a lot of very generic posts on the microblogs. If peakd can blacklist them then they will get nothing from CommentRewarder.

Peakd team is informed.
But they also make normal blogs, so we all have to keep an eye on them and don't upvote or interact.

Whack-a-mole

Neverending... Any new abuse vector on Hive, abusers/scammers are always right on it.

The one thing that 'surprises' me is that most of these accounts have 50 or more in rep... though exist often not even a year with very few interactions/posts!?!

So i guess the rep-score doesn't mean shit anymore...

They had a help from big accounts to reach that score so easy and so fast.

Not sure... even newly created bot-accounts have instantly 50 + rep. So it seems that all the rep score, as bozz said, was, is and never will be a thing. 🤷‍♀

It never really did...

Really an eye opener. Thank you for uncovering this and bringing it to our notice
