En el oriente del país existen varios géneros musicales que se cantan a la Cruz de Mayo durante su velada, se inicia con la Fulía y le sigue el Punto de velorio. Muchos de estos cantos ya están en proceso de extinción, se hace necesario proyectarlos y preservarlos como parte de nuestra identidad y gentilicio.

En esta oportunidad les traigo un Punto del Navegante cantado a capela, de Carúpano, Estado Sucre. Tomado de trabajo de investigación del Maestro Ricardo Sandoval, en su momento Dir. de la Agrupación Folclórica CONVENEZUELA. El punto del navegante es un canto de trabajo, canto del marino o el pescador en alta mar, cuando sale a pescar, escrito en forma de décimas y popularizado en el oriente del país y en la Isla de Margarita. Con el tiempo estos puntos fueron musicalizados a través de grupos de proyección utilizando instrumentos como la mandolina o bandolín, Bandola oriental, cuatro venezolano y guitarra.
