June 2: Italian Republic Day

in GEMS4 years ago

Hi everyone!

Today, June 2, the 74th Republic Day was celebrated in Italy.
This is a day established to commemorate the birth of the Italian Republic in which we remember the date of the institutional referendum of 2-3 June 1946.
On that date, Italy chose the republic as a form of state, preferring it to the monarchy. This happened after the end of the Second World War and the fall of the fascist regime.

The ceremonial of the event organized in Rome involves the deposition of a laurel wreath in homage to the Unknown Soldier at the Altare della Patria by the President of the Italian Republic and a military parade along via dei Fori Imperiali.
This year, the military parade did not take place due to COVID-19 pandemic regulations.

However, the performance of the Frecce Tricolori, the 313rd Acrobatic Training Group of the Italian Air Force, took place regularly.

It's a spectacular series of stunts lasting about half an hour of 9 planes in formation plus a soloist, recognized as one of the best aerobatic air patrol performances in the world.

The most exciting part is definitely the final one, when the aircraft draw a five-kilometer-long tricolor in the sky and fly over the Altare della Patria, the monument symbol of the Italian Republic.
While this spectacular maneuver is taking place, Luciano Pavarotti's voice intones the ending of Nessun dorma from the speakers.

Too bad that Italy is a substantially divided country, in which the sense of national unity is increasingly being lost.

To the usual political and social contrasts, bitter disputes between the various regions have been added, especially regarding the reopening of circulation in this period of Covid-19 emergency.

It's clear that there are different situations and therefore those who still have many infections should avoid imprudence, instead of shouting at the scandal or threatening to choose other holiday destinations (as mayor of Milan Beppe Sala did towards Sardinia, but then apologizing ).

From June 3rd it will be possible to move between the different regions of Italy and I hope everyone is responsible, because the health and life of the whole nation is at stake.

Unfortunately, this sense of responsibility has already disappeared on some occasions...in the night between 9 and 10 March for example, when many people fled the northern regions to return to the south and spread infections among their families and in their countries of origin.

It's useless for us to make these marvelous manifestations if we are not able to be in solidarity with each other, to put the community before individuality.

Because it's precisely on these occasions that the concept of Republic is expressed in the purest and deepest sense possible.

The republic is the government of honest people, and proof of this has been seen in all ages. They last while virtuous, and fall when corrupt and full of vices.

Ah garibaldi the movie director? Watched a few of his movies in my Italian film class.

It’s unfortunate that so many countries are so divided. It’s by design to keep people fighting themselves, instead of connecting and improving themselves there’s squabbles all over the place. We just need to embrace each other and keep our connections instead of dividing ourselves.

Glad things are opening up there in Italy, such a beautiful place.

Yes, you're right, behind the divisions there are always many interests.
Then, this period amplified people's fears and uncertainties...clearly there are jackals always ready to take advantage of them.

Hopefully the situation will return to normal soon. Thanks for reading ✌️
