Saludos. Los domingos me gusta escribir sobre temas donde pueda explorar el mundo interior. Muchas veces esa tarea me la facilitan las iniciativas de los hivers, las que siempre ofrecen buenos motivos para generar reflexiones. Tal es el caso de esta, propuesta por la amiga @carmenvmc, que como ella misma señala tiene la finalidad de “conocernos un poco más y mostrar que tan noble son nuestros corazones.” Les comento…
¿Cuál fue tu mayor logro?
No pudiera hablar de uno solo porque en realidad son varios. El primero, sería haber ido en contra del guión que según mi padre estaba escrito para mí. El viejo creía que para la gente pobre como nosotros la única opción era el trabajo manual; pensaba que yo como hijo mayor debía aprender un oficio con el que generar ingresos rápidamente y contribuir de esa manera con la economía familiar.
De no ser por mi madre probablemente me hubiese quedado con aquel mandato paterno, pero la vieja se empeñó, por todos los medios, en que nosotros debíamos estudiar e ir a la Universidad. Cuando no había dinero suficiente para comprar libros o para el transporte, ella hacía empanadas que yo llevaba a vender donde un señor español que era el dueño de la bodega del barrio. Fue así que logré hacerme profesional universitario y gracias a ello puedo escribir hoy en HIVE.
Otro gran logro fue poder reconstruir una familia. Luego de muchos años me tocó romper con mi primer matrimonio, tenía dos hijos pequeños a los que amaba profundamente. Tanto la ruptura como la convivencia posterior fueron muy difíciles. A veces los adultos usamos a los niños para castigar al otro integrante de la pareja. La pasé muy mal.
Luego, con el correr del tiempo pude encontrar una mujer que me ofreció compartir su vida, ella también tenía un niño pequeño. Comenzamos a vivir con muchos temores porque no sabíamos cómo iban a reaccionar los tres niños, todos varones. Pero la Providencia fue generosa con nosotros y resultó ser que desde el principio los muchachos se llevaron de maravillas y se integraron como si fueran hermanos, esa unión se consolidó con el nacimiento de mi última hija, la que siempre ha sido muy querida por sus tres hermanos varones. Ese sin duda es un logro que valoro mucho.
¿Cuál persona es tu amuleto de la suerte?
No pudiera hablar de un amuleto de la suerte, en su lugar prefiero hablar de inspiración. Una persona que me hado mucha inspiración ha sido mi actual esposa, ella es una mujer ecuánime que le gusta ver las cosas en perspectiva, tratando de buscar varias opciones. Esa actitud suya me ha ayudado a matizar mi tendencia a actuar impulsivamente.
La otra gran fuente de inspiración son mis hijos y mis nietas. Por ellos he tratado de ser mejor persona. Si hay algo que siempre me ha preocupado es pensar en cómo me recordaran mis hijos y mis nietas, cuál va a ser la imagen que se van a formar de mi, ahora y cuando no esté en este mundo.
¿Háblanos un poco de esa persona favorita?
MI hijo mayor me hizo abuelo hace ya once años, él tiene cuarenta y cuatro, es ingeniero electrónico especialista en petróleo y gas, es el único de mis hijos que todavía vive en el país. El segundo es abogado y músico. Ya tiene siete años en el exterior, se gana la vida tocando en sitios nocturnos con un dúo acústico formado con otra muchacha venezolana. El tercero también me hizo abuelo de dos niñas, tiene catorce años viviendo en España, se fue cuando tenía apenas veintidós, a las niñas las conozco por Whatsapp. Mi última hija cumplió veinticinco años, hace tres años decidió irse donde su hermano en España. Todavía se me aguan los ojos cada vez que escribo sobre ella. Me encantaría que por acá las cosas mejoraran a ver si algún día puede regresar.
¿Háblanos de tus defectos y que has hecho para mejorarlo?
El peor es cierta actitud pesimista ante el futuro. Desde joven me resultaba muy difícil quedarme con el lado positivo de las cosas. Incluso dejé de iniciar muchos proyectos por el temor a que me pudiera ir mal. Con el tiempo he aprendido que la vida tiene muchas vueltas y que no hay razones para esperar siempre lo peor. La vida misma se ha encargado de demostrármelo muchas veces. Cuando he pensado que todo se va por el despeñadero, siempre surge alguna solución. He aprendido a prestarle atención a ese mensaje, a tener confianza, esperanza y fe.
¿Amas realmente a tu familia?
Desde que era adolescente mi gran sueño era tener mi propia familia, ese ha sido el valor más fuerte y estable que he tenido en mi vida. La Providencia Divina quiso premiarme concediéndome ese deseo. ¿Qué si los amo? Por supuesto que si…

What was your greatest achievement?
I couldn't talk about just one because in reality there are several. The first would be to have gone against the script that my father said was written for me. The old man believed that for poor people like us the only option was manual labor; he thought that I as the eldest son should learn a trade with which to generate income quickly and thus contribute to the family economy.
Had it not been for my mother, I probably would have stayed with that parental mandate, but the old lady insisted, by all means, that we should study and go to university. When there was not enough money to buy books or for transportation, she made empanadas that I took to sell to a Spanish man who owned the bodega in the neighborhood. That is how I managed to become a university professional and thanks to that I can write today in HIVE.
Another great achievement was being able to rebuild a family. After many years I had to break up with my first marriage, I had two small children whom I loved deeply. Both the breakup and the subsequent cohabitation were very difficult. Sometimes adults use children to punish the other member of the couple. I had a very hard time.
Then, as time went by, I was able to find a woman who offered to share her life with me; she also had a small child. We began to live with many fears because we did not know how the three children, all boys, would react. But Providence was generous with us and it turned out that from the beginning the boys got along wonderfully and integrated as if they were brothers, that union was consolidated with the birth of my last daughter, who has always been very dear to her three brothers. That is undoubtedly an achievement that I value very much.
Which person is your lucky charm?
I couldn't talk about a lucky charm, instead I prefer to talk about inspiration. One person who has given me a lot of inspiration has been my current wife, she is an even-tempered woman who likes to see things in perspective, trying to look at various options. That attitude of hers has helped me to temper my tendency to act impulsively.
The other great source of inspiration is my children and granddaughters. Because of them I have tried to be a better person. If there is something that has always worried me, it is thinking about how my children and granddaughters will remember me, what will be the image they will form of me, now and when I am no longer in this world.
Tell us a little bit about that favorite person?
My eldest son made me a grandfather eleven years ago, he is forty-four years old, he is an electronic engineer specialized in oil and gas, he is the only one of my children who still lives in the country. The second one is a lawyer and musician. He has been abroad for seven years now, he makes a living playing in night clubs with an acoustic duo formed with another Venezuelan girl. The third one also made me grandfather of two girls, he has fourteen years living in Spain, he left when he was just twenty-two, I know the girls by Whatasapp. My last daughter turned twenty-five, three years ago she decided to go to her brother in Spain. My eyes still water every time I write about her. I would love for things to get better here, to see if someday she can come back.
Tell us about your shortcomings and what have you done to improve them?
The worst is a certain pessimistic attitude towards the future. Since I was young, it was very difficult for me to keep the positive side of things. I even stopped starting many projects because I was afraid that things would go badly for me. With time I have learned that life has many twists and turns and that there is no reason to always expect the worst. Life itself has shown me that many times. When I have thought that everything is going down the cliff, there is always a solution. I have learned to pay attention to that message, to have confidence, hope and faith.
Do you really love your family?
Since I was a teenager my great dream was to have my own family, that has been the strongest and most stable value I have had in my life. Divine Providence wanted to reward me by granting me that wish. Do I love them? Of course I do...
