Almost a Moon Landing / Fast eine Mondlandung

in GEMS4 years ago

I called this post "Almost a moon landing" because these words came to my mind when I was watching and photographing this scene: the moon could now land on the mountain top ;)

Ich habe diesen Beitrag "Fast eine Mondlandung" genannt, weil mir das eingefallen ist, als ich diese Szene beobachtet und fotografiert habe: der Mond könnte jetzt auf dem Berggipfel landen ;)

Pink Supermoon - April 8, 2020

In my last post I showed a few photos of the Supermoon from April 8, 2020 and a photo montage with a tree in front of the moon: Pink SuperMoon...

In meinem letzten Beitrag habe ich ein paar Fotos des Supermondes vom 8. April 2020 und eine Fotomontage mit Baum gezeigt: Pink SuperMoon...

Later on the way home I was able to watch a pink morning sky with the super moon over the Mittagskogel mountain ... and the moon apparently landed on the mountain for a short time before it disappeared behind it.

Moon, so Round and Yellow

Moon, so round and yellow,
Looking from on high,
How I love to see you
Shining in the sky.
Oft and oft I wonder,
When I see you there,
How they get to light you,
Hanging in the air:

Where you go at morning,
When the night is past,
And the sun comes peeping
O'er the hills at last.
Sometime I will watch you
Slyly overhead,
When you think I'm sleeping
Snugly in my bed.

I was 17 and in the army when Maggie Reilly sang Mike Oldfield's song "Moonlight Shadow", and this is one of the few songs from my youth that I remember well to this day.

Those are some fantastic shots of the moon. I guess I need to wake up earlier, I have been trying to get a good picture when it is pitch black outside middle of the night. Looks like early evening or very early morning are the best times, not 2 am.

That was a nice song, is that the same Mike Oldfield of Tubular Bells? I like that moon song, I of course had to search for it, and of course the first version the sound stopped half way through, so had to find another one. But it was well worth the hunt.

Good morning @bashadow,

thank you very much for your kind comment and compliment on my photos 🙂

When i made the first shots with the big telephoto lens it was about half an hour before sunrise. I would say early blue hour. The black sky on the photos results from the short shutterspeed, and I think you can make these shots in the middle of the night too, but the stars need a long shutterspeed while the moon doesn't. I have tried star photos only a few times before, but they didn't come out well, because I don't have fast lenses - mine are lenses for landscape photos from aperture f/4 up.
These photos were made about an hour later and although I was hoping to get some more photos on my way home I was very lucky to get to that spot at the right time and that the moon was even on a better place than I had thought 😀

So, my conclusion would be that as long as the Hive price don't go up high enough that I can afford faster lenses I won't get up in the middle of the night for moon photos 😉

Yes, it's the same Mike Oldfield: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Oldfield - Youtube didn't like Steemit and it does not like the Hive neither it seems.
He is a great musician and composer. I am not a huge music fan or listener, but sometimes I need to put my earphones on and forget the world around me ... from Rammstein over Elvis and Dolly Parton to The Who or Lindsay Sterling, I have no real preferences ;)

Have a great weekend and take care.

Amazing capture @johannpiber.
Was it a coincidence, or did you know that you will get this amazing photo from this location?

When Maggie Reilly and Mike Oldfield came out with " Moonlight Shadow ", I was just 10 years old.

I avoided doing national service in the navy. I had to bribe psychiatrist , for false diagnosis and history of mental illness 🤪. Otherwise I would loose five years of my life in communist army.

Have a great evening @johannpiber.

Well, I knew that the moon would be in the direction where I was driving and I was hoping to eventually see it over these mountains which would hopefully be pink colorized by the rising sun, but that it really worked and that I had this view from that field was pure luck 🙂

You are a young boy ;)

If it was five years here I would have had a lot of mental problems too I believe, but we have to serve for 8 months only and I have to admit, most was fun ... and I learned drinking there ;) lol

Thank you so much @cezary-io, have a great weekend if you don't have to work 🙂

Well that was really great luck, because you got stunning photos from that location.

Nice to know that you learned something useful in the army 👍 😉 🍺🍹🍸🍷.

Yeah, but it was a hard training - almost every day we trained hard and slowly got better and better, but after these 8 months we have been real professional drinkers ;) lol

you got the perfect angle for these shot and they are awesome, seeing such wonderful shots helps me keep my sanity or what is led of it

Thanks a lot my friend - these photos were pure luck: I knew where about the moon would be when I drive home, but I didn't know that it was over this mountain and also not that the sun would colorize the sky and the mountain so intense. That I had such a good view from the meadow beside the road was even more luck 🙂

So, it's time for me - have a nice evening and wonderful weekend JJ.

👍🙂👍

Love that shot of the moon landing and the shades of pink and purple Johann. Video is unavailable in my country. Will check on YouTube later.

Lovely upbeat song. I was able to see it on

When I have heard that song for the first time I said this will be a number one and I think it has been number one for more than 10 weeks in Europe ;)

Good morning Jo, I hope you are fine - I have just had a look at the numbers on PEI and it seems you are doing a very good job fighting the virus.

Thank you so much for your nice compliment on my lucky shots - at first I was able to get quite nice photos of the moon with the big lens and then I was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time 🙂

Have a wonderful weekend and take care 🙂

Mornin’Johann. PEI is in pretty good shape with the low numbers of the virus. The ferry from PEI to Nova Scotia opens in May but has been postponed to June. I hope this pandemic is over by then. There are check points at the bridge to make sure anyone coming on is for essential business or having to isolate 14 days if a resident.

Keep on keeping well my friend and have a great weekend. 🙂

There are quite some advantages to live on an island which has only one real access point 🙂
... and I do hope your numbers will not raise and you will surpass this crisis without losing any people.

Yes, I am thankful To be on the Island. I see Austria has quite a few recoveries from the virus. That’s a good thing.
!tip

Yes, our numbers of infections are going down and the measures are loosened a bit already. Hopefully people are still disciplined so that we may be able to defeat the virus soon.
Thanks for the tip :)

Welcome Johann. That’s good the number are going down. 👍

Beautiful shots. Perfect timing. A big moon too. 😊

I have to admit it was more luck than timing, but who cares if the pictures are good? ;)
Thank you so much for your kind comment Vincent, I wish you a wonderful weekend ... and take care.

Indeed, we all deserve a little break now and then. 😊

You too. Keep well!

Echt super geil

Dankeschön und schönes Wochenende 🙂

Very magnificent Super Full Moon! It's great to see the excellent shot when the Moon landed on the mountain. You were so lucky to experience it by your own eyes. Thanks so much for sharing. ;)

Many thanks for your kind comment, @tangmo, I was really lucky to be at the right time on the right place 🙂

You're welcome! ;)
