Intimate Landscape Photography
Slovenia | Šunikov vodni gaj . Slap Boka
There are many different descriptions for the term "Intimate Landscape Photography", but all have in common that it's taking photos of a small scene within a larger scene that might or should make the viewer curious about the whole scene.
So, the viewer should not only look on what's in the image to see, but also imagine what might lie outside of the frame.
Just like it's big brother landscape photography, intimate landscape photography is a sub-genre of nature photography.
I love waterfalls and that's why my preferred objects for intimate landscapes are waterfalls and rivers, as you can see in this post.
I haven't taken many photos in the past weeks, somehow my Mojo is still on holidays and somehow I'm mostly just too tired after busy days and weeks.Šunikov vodni gaj
Two weeks ago, I was once again in Slovenia at the Šunikov vodni gaj, the Šunik Water Grove. But let me begin with the last photo of that day which I took on my way home at the lake Lago del Predil in Italy.

I have taken and posted tons of photos of the waterfalls in the Šunik Water Grove in the Lepena Valley, but not so many intimate photos showing more of the details and textures of the rocks the water is flowing by and over.

The above photos are detail shots of the big waterfalls in the grove, and below is a shot of the Lepena river which I like a lot because a few rays of the morning sun were peeking just a little bit through the clouds and the trees, illuminating this rock in a warm golden tone.

Slap Boka
Last weekend I wanted to take photos of this waterfall: the Boka Waterfall / Slap Boka in Slovenia. And for the first time I have hiked towards the waterfall through the river itself and didn't use the path through the woods.

But as you can see, there's not much water and the highest waterfall in Slovenia looks quite small. I was expecting a lot more water from the mountains where I thought the snow would already be melting, but maybe I've been too early there.
So I decided not to hike completely up to the waterfall, because the rocks were quite icy at places and I didn't want to risk hurting myself, but to take a few detail images on my way. Also, the weather wasn't the best and neither was my motivation, to be honest.

On my way back down I have found one more heart for my little collection of "natural hearts" and I took a few intimate water photos, the best of which can be seen here above and below.

As said above, the weather was not the best - it was cloudy but not very cold and it was slightly snowing in the mountains.
And so I end this post like I started it, with a non intimate landscape photo, showing cloudy skies over the mountains in Slovenia. There was a little gap in the clouds that let the sun illuminate a snow field on the peak.

All photos were taken with the Canon EOS R and one of these lenses: Canon RF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM, Canon RF 70-200mm f/4 L IS USM, Canon EF 16-35mm 1:4 L IS USM, Canon EF 50mm 1:1.8 L STM, SIGMA 105mm 1:2,8 DG MACRO HSM, Sigma 100-400mm f/5-6,3 DG OS HSM C.

This time of year is not the best for photography, everything is dull and gray and if it doesn't rain for weeks it's even looking worse. So shooting smaller scenes is most times the only way, at least for me.
It's really hard to decide where to go in the short free time I have, so living somewhere where all is so close together is really an advantage 😊
This week will go very fast again with a night shift on Wednesday, but the next week will start earlier for me because I have a 24-hour shift from Sunday to Monday. But Sundays are usually easy and I might have some time for my important things 😂 !LOLZ

Zooming in on specific features capturing little lighting makes it more of a challenge for experienced photographer like yourself.
Free time massive advantage being close to everything, an hour drive to something different, although after all the years living there you know spots which are better in certain conditions.

Mostly I don't think as much as I should when I'm taking photos: I like a scene and take a photo and at home I wonder when it's too dark or when there are distracting elements in the image or other things I should have noticed 😂
Today is quite easy although I have enough to do ... was just writing an e-mail and continue now ;)
Yep, I know some spots which I love and some spots where I don't go. Last weekend I have found a new valley which will be great in Autumn, I believe, and a waterfall which I couldn't visit because the road was closed 😅

Finding new nooks and crannies to explore sounds interesting, how annoying closing off roads, Oh well better luck next time.

Having your Mojo on holidays sounds wonderfully relaxing Hannes, I did wonder where you were over the last few weeks and glad you relaxing. But I also agree with you about being too tired to write or even comment because that is me now and then.

These are beautiful images Hannes. You are so lucky to be able to view such beauty of the many mountains and waterfalls on your travels.
It would be difficult to pick a favorite as they are all awesome. The Lepena river photo with the rays of the morning sun peeking out and illuminating the rock in a warm golden tone is one and the heart formation on the rock is another. I do love rocks and you have some great looking rockfaces with the amazing waterfalls.

WOW! Very beautiful photos! It's a good decision that you began this post with the last photo of that day. The snowy mountains are magnificent and the huge clouds are wonderful. The cloudy skies over the mountains and the sun that illuminate the snow field on the peak in the last photo are picturesque. Great capture!

I have to say @johannpiber you mastered this Intimate Photography very well just what I expected I must try this myself next time I visit waterfalls I can't choose a favorite they are all superb 👍

What a refreshing way to start a week! Of course, scrolling by, I knew better, but, curiosity got the better of me! Also, I have extra time this morning, how did that happen? I think for me the nights are finally taking a toll, or it is just that time of year. I haven't decided, but, I have no time, and always seem to be rushing, covid... and well, the motivation is at a low level. But, I have to remember that spring is almost in the air, I have stunning photography sitting in front of me and there is hope for the world to set its path on healing... I have hope in my soul I just cannot leave this world behind for my children to deal with.
I think I just depressed anyone reading this! Yikes. On a happier note, I have the day in front of me, less a little sleep and I am admiring the beauty of the waterfalls. Up close and personal give a whole new meaning to your shots. I like the small details - but, of course, the heart in nature wins my pick for the day!
Such a lovely place to grow up in, Hannes. You give her beauty the vision and she keeps giving back to you.
Extra time? I wished I would have such a luxury, but I shouldn't moan because I get paid for my work, although sometimes I would prefer to get paid less and work less to have more time for the more important things in my life 😉

Oh yes, we have had snow in the beginning of May too, but when it snows so late all is gone again withing a few days.
When I was young all snow was gone until mid of March, but the seasons seem to have moved since then somehow.

I was actually admiring the heart shaped moss! This was really nice to capture, I often manage to see shapes and patterns during my walks in the forest.
I also see often different shapes and forms, but somehow I love the hearts most, and they are quite seldom ♥️
