Montañas ubicadas en el fondo de la Laguna de Mucubaji
Preámbulo | Preamble
Dicen que una imagen vale mas que mil palabras, pero las fotos por si sola no transmite los detalles de lo que es estar allí, en un lugar como lo es en nuestro caso, del páramo merideño, y aunque al ver esta foto y las que siguen podemos imaginar las característica del momento, el contexto como tal, queda grabado en la memoria de quien estuvo allí, respirando y contemplando ese escenario.
They say that an image is worth a thousand words, but photos alone do not convey the details of what it is like to be there, in one of the most visited places of the southern moor, in our case, and although we can speculate, the context as such is engraved in the memory of whoever was there breathing and contemplating that scenario.
Para alejar las especulaciones y darle sentido a estas fotos que casi ni conexión tienen, debo hablar de mis días en Mucuchies . Hace 5 años tuve la oportunidad de vivir en San Rafael de Mucuchies, estado Mérida, una zona andina de Venezuela, estuve alrededor de 5 a 6 meses trabajando en esas lindas montañas.
To dispel speculation and make sense of these photos that have almost no connection, I must talk about my days in Mucuchies. Five years ago I had the opportunity to live in San Rafael de Mucuchies in the state of Merida, the Andean zone of Venezuela. I spent about 5 to 6 months working in those beautiful mountains.

Contexto.|Context.
Como de seguro saben muchos, el trabajo que abunda en esa región es la agricultura, sobretodo aquella dedicada a la siembra y cosecha de rubros como la papa, la zanahoria, el ajo y para mi suerte las fresas. Trabaje cultivando los productos que mencione anteriormente, pero lo que no olvido de ese tiempo es el esfuerzo que hice en aprender a cultivar esos alimentos.
As I'm sure many know, the work that abounds in this region is agriculture, especially that dedicated to the planting and harvesting of items such as potatoes, carrots, garlic and, for my luck, strawberries. I worked cultivating the products I mentioned above, but what I do not forget about that time is the effort I made to learn how to work with those foods.
Para contextualizar un poco, yo soy de Maracaibo, una zona muy caliente de Venezuela, tan caliente que para nosotros los maracuchos es como si estuviéramos mas cerca de sol que de el resto de la tierra, es decir, nada es mas caliente que Maracaibo, si suena un poco exagerado, pero así somos los marabinos.
To contextualize a bit, I am from Maracaibo, a very hot area of Venezuela, so hot that for us Maracuchos it is as if we were closer to the sun than to the rest of the earth, that is to say, nothing is hotter than Maracaibo, if it sounds a bit exaggerated, but that's how we Maracuchos are.
Ahora Mucuchies es frió, de hecho, es uno de los pueblos mas frió de Venezuela cuya temperatura llega a cero grados en el invierno, por lo que el cambio de clima fue para mi drástico, y no solo la temperatura, sino también la altura, en Maracaibo estamos a casi sobre el nivel del mar, mientras que mucu esta a una altura de los 3000 msnm según wikipedia, entonces como verán son datos que hay tomar en cuenta.
Now Mucuchies is cold, in fact, is one of the coldest towns of Venezuela whose temperature reaches zero in the winter, so the climate change was for me drastic, and not only the temperature, but also the height, in Maracaibo we are almost above sea level, and in Mucu is at an altitude of 3000 meters according to wikipedia, then as you will see are data to take into account.

Experiencia | Experience
Mi experiencia en la agricultura fue intensa, desde el primer día hasta el ultimo, lo recuerdo bien, no había día en el cual no saliera agotado o mamao como muy bien solemos decir en cualquier parte de Venezuela. Son incontable las veces que me resbale bajando las peñas de las montañas, y no de estas, que aparecen en estas lindas fotos, sino en las paredes inclinadas por los cuales me tocaba caminar, parecidas a un tobogán, porque ademas con la tierra mojada digamos que el coeficiente de fricción se reducía mucho
My experience in agriculture was intense, from the first day to the last, I remember it well, there was no day in which I did not leave exhausted or mamao as we usually say in any part of Venezuela. It is countless the times that I slipped down the rocks of the mountain, and not of these, that appear in these beautiful photos, but in the inclined walls style slide by which I had to walk, good some.

Tampoco puedo olvidarme de las horas agachado que estuve echando pico en la tierra, sembrando papa, limpiando los surcos, sacando zanahoria y toda la sensación del frió mezclado con el calor del trabajo, es una de las cosas mas extrañas, tanto que no me percataba de la quemadura a causa del sol, aunque no quedaba como un toteaito, como le dicen a los andinos de cachetes rojos, sino mas bien como un chino negrito(asi me decian).
Nor can I forget the hours spent bending over the ground, sowing potatoes, cleaning the furrows, pulling out carrots and all the sensation of cold mixed with the heat of work, is one of the strangest things, so much so that I did not notice the sunburn, although not as a toteaito, as they call the Andean people with red cheeks, but rather as a black Chinese (so they told me)
La verdad que son varios detalles que puedo mencionar acerca de trabajar en la agricultura, pero los mas atractivos fueron levantar y cargar sacos de papa y zanahoria de 50 a 60 kg, cuesta arriba y cuesta abajo, igualmente jalar manguera para el riego que pesan tanto como los sacos llenos, descargar abono del camión para esparcirlo por la tierra(a esto le podemos añadir lo fastidioso que es la concha de arroz) que iba hacer usada, fumigar la siembra todo el día hasta quedar perfumado de veneno, recoger la papa que sale de la tierra luego de arar y hacer los surcos para sembrar ajo y cargar la bomba de agua como las semillas de papa hasta la sima de la colina.
There are several details that I can mention about working in agriculture, but the most attractive were lifting and carrying 50kg to 60kg sacks of potatoes and carrots up and down those mountains, pulling irrigation hose that weigh as much as the full sacks, unloading fertilizer from the truck to spread it all over the land (to this we can add the annoying one that is the rice shell), fumigating the sowing all day until it is perfumed with poison, picking up the potato that comes out of the land after ploughing and making the furrows to sow garlic and loading the water pump and the potato seed up to the hill's abyss.
Los beneficios | Benefits
Aunque como en todo trabajo hay beneficios, y en este caso era el día de recoger las fresas, podía comer tantas como quisiera, claro con el pleno conocimiento de los jefes, y ademas recoger para llevar a casa como también el día de la cosecha de papa, el de arrancar las papas, porque ese día lo que ganas depende directamente de tu capacidad de sacar la papa de la tierra, es decir, mientras mas papa sacas, mas te pagan y para un obrero acostumbrado o experto en esa tarea, es como obtener el dinero de una semana y media o mas en un solo día, es decir, lo mas **divertido de la vida, nada se le puede comparar a ese día, hasta para mi, que era un pasante agricultor me emocionaba por ir a arrancar papa, es difícil quizás para otros verlo así, pero en los últimos días estaba muy feliz de estar allí, lamento no tener foto de esos momentos.

Lo divertido | The fun part
Y era divertido desde el sentido que le doy a esta experiencia, en especial por haberme sacado de la comodidad a la cual estaba acostumbrado y con ello exigirme física y mentalmente a soportar el dolor inicial y adaptarme a las condiciones que me rodeaban, (porque muchas veces quería renunciar,desde el primer día), por conocer el valor, el trabajo que lleva producir un saco de papa o de zanahoria, quedar admirado de las capacidades de mis compañeros, de sus enseñanzas, su amabilidad y la sorprendente humildad a pesar de ser héroes, porque hay que ser héroes para dedicar la vida a este tipo de trabajo, que ademas es muy necesario.
And it's funny from the sense I give to this experience, especially for having taken me out of the comfort I was used to and with it demanding physically and mentally to endure the initial pain and adapt to the conditions around me, (because many times I wanted to give up from the first day), to know the value, the work that it takes to produce a sack of potatoes or carrots, to be amazed at the abilities of my colleagues, their advice, their kindness and their surprising humility in spite of being heroes, because you have to be a hero to dedicate your life to this kind of work, which is also very necessary.
Recuerdo haberme sentido muy orgulloso de mi trabajo, y lo estoy por todo lo que aprendí, sobretodo cuando me adapte, pude corroborar que no es teoría que el ser humano puede adaptarse a un cambio de ambiente, tarde o temprano, para sobrevivir debe de adaptarse a las condiciones de un cambio si no hay otra alternativa, aunque en mi caso la había.
I remember feeling very proud of my work, and I am proud of everything I learned, especially when I adapted, I could corroborate that it is not a theory that human beings can adapt to a change of environment, sooner or later, to survive they must adapt to the conditions of a change if there is no other alternative, although in my case there was
En los alrededores de la Laguna de Mucubají La enseñanza | Teaching
Cuando te adaptas a un lugar, pasa a ser como tu hogar, tu ambiente, ya no es un sitio turístico como lo es Laguna de MucubajÍ , sino mas bien una extensión de el entorno, uno que deseas conocer desde todos los ángulos posibles, como lo fue ese día que pude caminar por las montañas que rodean esa hermosa laguna que forma parte de mi segundo hogar
When you adapt to a place, it becomes like your home, your environment, is no longer a tourist site as it is Laguna de MucubajÍ , but rather an extension of the environment, one that you want to know from all possible angles, as it was that day I was able to walk through the mountains surrounding that beautiful lagoon that is part of my second home
Cuando veo estas fotos, no solo recuerdo el aire frió de las montañas y el olor a pino, sino todo lo que aprendí en ese lugar, que es mi segunda tierra y hogar..!
When I see these photos, I not only remember the cold mountain air and the smell of pine, but everything I learned in that place, which is my second home and land!
