If you go for traveling and sight seeing in Sawat then you must visit Jahanabad Seated Buddha. One of the most completed and well preserved seated Buddha in this area. This Buddha statue is famous because it is the second largest Buddha Statue in central Asia. Jahanabad Buddha is very well carved on a high rock having measurement of 700 x 500 cm. Jahanabad Seated Buddha shows a holy importance for Buddhist as Buddha is in deep contemplation on a high asana.
During my visit to Malam Jabba I saw this Buddha from road. As at that time it was evening so I was not able to hike and see this Buddha closely. But if you have time then you must explore this as it is at a distance of 45 minutes hike from road. It is very difficult to build this kind of huge statue on an elevated big rock which everyone can see miles away. They carved this Buddha with great expertise and love. It is believed that this Buddha carving may had done in 6th or 7th century.
This Jahanabad Buddha statue was destroyed by Talibans in 2007 but with the help of Italian Archaeological team this carving has been restored.
This valley is full of archaeological sites, during traveling on road you can see many stupas. So if you like archaeological sites then you must consider to visit this place.
