Formerly, "bleeding" was used as a treatment by doctors, with the aim of "curing" ailments, but how did they get blood out of people? The answer is simple, they used leeches, and of course someone had to go look for them in the swamp, because that is where the leeches collectors came into action, using their own bodies as bait to capture these slimy animals.

The collectors entered the water (without any protection) and let the leeches adhere to their skin, then grabbed them, put them in glass jars of water or small barrels, and sold them to doctors.

At the end of the 18th century, in Britain there was an invasion of gray rats, which were considered much more dangerous than black rats. These animals not only transmitted diseases and could even bite people and domestic animals, but they ate food from pantries, grain from silos, destroyed documents and caused panic among the population, for this reason, people of lower social status, who were already familiar with these animals (due to their precarious living conditions), offered themselves as rat hunters, and people paid them a certain amount for each rat they killed.

This job was often held by children, but there were also professional rat catchers, who used dogs and ferrets to improve the effectiveness of their work, there was even a very famous one, Jack Black, who became the official rat catcher of Queen Victoria.

This job developed in England and Scotland in the 19th century. People had the belief that when a person died, without having been in God's grace, and also had not been good during life, then they had to eliminate their sins so that they could enter heaven, for this reason, family members They baked a round loaf and placed it on top of the corpse for a long time on the day of the wake, then they hired a "sin eater" who came to eat the bread, and in this way "absorbed" the sins of the deceased person.

As you can see in the image above, this was one of the worst jobs that could exist in ancient times, although it could also bring many benefits and I will explain why.

The duty of a Goom of the Stood was to remain with the king at all times, holding a portable toilet, and to be prepared for when the king wanted to poop, but his work did not stop there, he too he had to clean his butt and look at the S's for abnormalities that he had to report to his doctor later.

Being with the king at all times, the Groom of the Stood was considered a person of the utmost importance, and as such was respected, in addition, the monarch used to confide in him and ask him for advice.

This job consisted of fanning heated people who lived in hot countries, especially India, when the English colonized the country. The most coveted Punkawallah (human fans), were the deaf, so that they could not hear the conversations of their bosses.

Over time, the Punkawallah developed pulley systems to move several fans at once, or even a large one.

El paga peo/The one who farts

Formerly, among the people of Venezuelan high society, especially the women who were called "Mantuanas", due to the long cloaks they used to go to church, there was the custom of taking a slave with them (almost always a child) Then, when they felt the need to let out a flatulence, they did it without any qualms, and later they beat the slave, accusing him as guilty.

These slaves were called "los pagapeo" which made reference to the fact that they were guilty of the flatulence of their masters. Currently, in Venezuela the expression "Pagapeo" continues to be used to denote that a person is a scapegoat, the expression "I'm not going to pay that peo" is also used to show that the person is not willing to take on the fault of others. In this way, the word "Peo" (farts) began to be associated with problems or guilt.
