Indulge me and think back to when you were young. Do you remember playing the game Musical Chairs? I remember it well. We would play it in elementary school and it would go something like this: Say there were 10 players, so there would be 9 chairs arranged and while the music played the players would walk around the chairs. However once the music stopped, everyone would have to sit down. Of course someone would be left standing and would be out of the game.
Upon deeper inspection, all that glitters is not gold.
Now speaking of games, there is also another popular type of game called a zero sum game. What that means in essence is if a player gains 1, the other player loses 1. There is no increase, the sum is always zero. How does this look with BTC? There are 2 classes of people, those in the BTC game and those not in. To get in the game, you must trade some money for some BTC. The price of BTC at any given time is a function of people wanting in (or deeper in) the game. Much like Warren Buffett describes gold: you can see it if you own it. You can stroke it or wear it but beyond that, gold doesn't actually do anything. Not at all like a farm that can produce food, or a company that can make phones, oil, cars, or planes. The problem with BTC is one cannot even wear it!
Lets look at the value of BTC another way. As Charlie Munger says when problem solving, "always inverse". So let's pretend no one wants to be in the BTC game. No one is buying it, so it goes to zero. Would those people not in the game be affected? Would Grandma Suzy feel any pain because BTC went away? She never had a penny in it and it did not do a thing that affected society.
The good news is maybe Hive is slightly different. Hive is used to reward posts written by real people. That is kind of real, right? Honestly I am not sure. However I still do believe in making and selling a product that improves people's lives is the best way for me to allot capital. What do you think?
