Good morning Hivers 💖 I will be sharing with you this morning how I made this lovely dress. I mixed IRISH material with DAMASK and the outcome was so lovely, instead of collar at the front as usual for a kaftan, I made use of zip at it shoulder.
Let me take you through the process of getting it done.
MATERIALS USED
- fabric (IRISH and Damask)
- zip
- hair stay
- thread
CUTTING PROCESS
First thing to consider before cutting a fabric is the measurements of whom you are sewing for, after gotten that, then you can cut for fabric.
I cut the front part first, folding the fabric into two considering the chest measurement with allowances then start your measurements proper.
Measure the neck, the shoulder, shoulder rest, armhole, the chest, and the length. Join the dotted lines and cut it out.
Then you proceed to the back, folding the fabric into two again like you did earlier, place the front you cut on it, extend the shoulder tips by 3 inches and 2.5 inches respectively and cut out.
Then the sleeve and back landing.
SEWING PROCESS
I started my sewing, folding the allowances added to the length and the sleeve then sew, thereafter I joined one shoulder leaving the other for the zip for easy wear since it has no collar, then I tape it.
Then I fixed the zip using black head machine, I can't used my industrial to get that done because I've not gotten the foot that can fix invisible zip
I joined the sleeve to the body, close the body considering the chest measurement then leaving a sleet for easy wear.
