Main reasons that are causing FLOODS in Assam( India)

in GEMS4 years ago

There is a massive change in the amount of floods causing damage to many people across Assam. Earlier floods happened once in every year and it's in the minimal state. But recently it started crossing the danger level. Now it's 3rd time I and my village is experiencing the destruction and fear caused by flood.Floods scar us more than any thing. Because during flood it's dangerous to be in high depth area specially if you don't know to swim. And collapsing of roads is more scarier then we could ever imagine

Looking at the situation, it made me wonder how these changes are happening every year. And found out some really acceptable results. I've posted about the rise in water level of Brahmaputra river earlier. You can check out here

Earthquake and landslides

The north Eastern region is also well known for having huge mountains and during any earthquake , landslides occours which put a lot of debris into the water. And this increases the river bed.

Dams

Building dam across river bridge has both good and bad results.
During June and July when water levels start rising , dams maintain the flow of water. But some situation arises when dams have to release much water to protect itself from collapsing. This release of water also cause floods and every year peoples lose their house

Projects are not well implemented

Recently there was a work sanctioned to build a project of dredging Brahmaputra river. This will allow more water to remain in river and reduce flooding . It's been about 5 years from the time when the project was sanctioned but still it's not completed properly.

These are the main reasons why we're getting flooded every year. If all the necessity actions would have taken, then it wouldn't have been same.

What a mess. I can't imagine what is going through something like that. Over here it is very rare to see floods and when they happen they are limited to a few meters around the river.

Yeah. And now it's even more frequent. Happens nearly 3-4 times every year .
