ENGAGE ON HIVE: Reasons Why You Do Not Want To Get Down On The Ground Fight

in GEMS4 years ago

You usually do what you are taught in your training, I get it. The fact is, it works perfectly on the mat at the gym. But when you are outside on the street, if you apply the same thing, you might end up getting injured instead of defending yourself from attackers.

People on the street will not attack you the way you practice at the gym. The situation is different. There is no mat on the ground, or maybe you are not in a nice green field with soft grass. So if you fall on the ground, it will not hurt because there are lots of soft grass over there.

The surface can be hard and solid. Somehow if your head hits on that surface, you will wake up in a hospital in the future. And you would be wondering how you made that time travel.

For the time being, let's assume that there is only one attacker. When you get down on the ground, if the attacker has any weapon like a gun or knife, he will draw his weapon and all he has to do is to pull the trigger or stab. You know what would happen then.

Sometimes the fight might end up on the ground. You can fall on the ground and you can be attacked while you are on the ground. In that case, you have to defend yourself from there and whenever you get any chance, stand up quickly.

In a fight for self defense, you might see there is only one attacker. But there are other attackers who are just waiting. Even if you are good at the ground fight, while you are fighting on the ground, your full attention is on the attacker you are dealing with. You are not in a good position to see other attackers and if they attack you, you will find it difficult to defend yourself from there.

That's why it is better to fight in a standing position. You can throw the attacker on the ground, but do not get on the ground with the attacker.

As always, a nicely put together and very informative post. Let's hope that no one finds themselves in this situation, although it would be naive to think it isn't possible. Thanks for taking the time to enter and support the posting initiative. Good luck.

We do not expect that we have to fight for self defense. Unfortunately, if that happens, it is better to prepare yourself so that you can make your move to defend yourself.

You've taken a great initiative and it inspires us to make content and engage more on Hive blockchain. Thank you so much @galenkp for this!

I agree completely...As someone who is prepared for things I completely endorse people being a little more prepared than not...The unprepared are more likely to become victims. Many would disagree with us though of course.

You are welcome, it is my pleasure to help push a little engagement and activity. :)

what really makes me sad about most of the martial arts, is that nowadays are not practical for actual fight. It's more like a choreography, a tradition etc etc and the reason behind this, is the luck of sparring

If you watch martial art action movies, what you see, most of them are not practical. Their focus is on entertainment, so they do what looks good on camera. On the other hand, the most effective moves for self defense might not look good on camera or it's hard to catch.

Learning martial arts or self defense without having practical implications will not do any good in a fight for self defense. When I talk about martial arts or write about it, I always focus on practical application of it. Thank you so much @filotasriza3 for your thought-provoking comment.

don't get me wrong i like martial arts a lot! i have done judo and shaolin kung fu in the past but the majority of what i learned wasn't practical at all. That's why i gave emphasis on sparring which in some martial arts is out of the question! Ofc still you learn some minor practical stuff as well as you get exercised, you learn to be patient, to work hard, dedication, commitment etc etc

what martial arts have you done or doing?

I get it how you feel. If you learn martial art for self defense, it has to be practical and applicable in real life situations. Learning something without having real life applications is pointless. Sparring is so important that you cannot skip it, otherwise, you will not understand how to make your move in a fight. I've been practicing martial art for a long time. I'll talk about it at another time.

Thanks, @filotasriza3 and have a wonderful day!

Nice post, got me wanting to do high kicks around the house, but it’s sage advice on a serious note.

Glad to know you like that. Thank you @justinparke for your feedback! :)
