Modern Medicine - Maggot Therapy for Human Wounds ?? Yep !

in GEMS4 years ago

It's amazing what humans can do and what they discover in the name of modern medicine.

Here is a woman with diabetes...

She is morbidly obese and has many health obstacles to face. A few months before she had an abscess taken from her abdomen that left an open wound.

So what do they use to counter this open wound...

Maggots !! That's right fly larva that live and grow off dead tissue. So she is having Maggot Therapy.

I would be 'creeped' out...

and this woman also feels kind of the same way. But what happens is the maggots ( fly larva) clean the wound by eating the dead bacterial filled tissue. This has a positive effect on healing the wound that much quicker so the infection does NOT spread throughout the rest of her body. Also the saliva of these Maggots actually have anti bacterial effects.

This is just fascinating to me . Check out the video below of this woman and her dilemma.

Very interesting stuff man. That opening clip was gross though hahaha.

If it was necessary, I'd definitely try it.

Yeah , never heard of it before this. Really interesting

Ugh, that is so gross. It is almost like what I needed for my wound though. They are using honey infused bandages to pull out the infection and the dead tissue. It is pretty crazy.

Yeah it is. Wonder of the doctor who first came up with the idea

Still hard for me to believe maggot also has its usefulness
