Creating A Sunshine

in GEMS4 years ago

I must admit, everyone sucks at one part or point in their life. And it never stops. One way or the other, there are still things that we do which presents the reality to us that we suck! And some days are just going to on purpose take away that beautiful sun-light and replacing it with nothing - not even the moon. Thereby giving us no atom of hope to lean on.

I know of a guy whose football talent is beyond this world. Clearly, we all believed there is no way this dude would not be selected for the national team in the nearest future. And when I say nearest, I mean really really sooner. We all witnessed him take his studies for granted. Like for real! Even though most of us were not supportive of the idea of him having to leave class during lecture period just so he could go train or go for a football competition match against another school team, we believed he was going to be successful at football. Yea, these do clashes with lectures periods most times.

He was basically known for two things. One of them is the fact that when ever he is with the ball, his high speed and ability of ball control (even while on the sprint) makes him so dangerous. When he is with the ball, you hardly catches him once he press the sprint button. And the other is the fact that he rarely misses a free kick. He scores 90% of his free kicks. Especially the ones taken from a home match. I really don't know how he does it. Some of us had even suspected him using MOJO 😂Damn! He was just good.

Everyone, including the opponent's keeper and the whole fans of the opponent tremble when ever he was about to take a free kick at close distance. I am sure most of those trembling forks pray and even ask God for forgiveness so their prayers can be answered just so the nigga would not net the game! 🤣 I am sure you have a pretty good idea of how good he really is? But it all came down to a big disappointment when he got injured in a match that saw him not fit to ever play football again.

The main reason why this got so bad was the fact he was too focused on football to the point academics becomes shit to him. He never concentrated in class and had came up all with bad grades. Having repeated the class before now, he was sent out of the school. (Government School Rules - You fail a class twice, you are out of the school). This got to him as well as the rest of us. To me, it was more like betrayal. I questioned myself several times asking "where are the school teams and the teachers in charge".

Jacob, which happens to be his name became a street thug. An aggressive one for that matter. He had saved me once from the hands of these street thugs at one night when he said he knew me and I am not to be touched. Whoah, seriously, that was one of the greatest relief I have had in my life. But afterwards, Jacob disappeared! No one saw him or even heard from him. Until we all heard the shocker of the moment that he was now in the University of Lagos, a top well known and respected University in the country. And guess what? He rides a car!

He narrated to a friend of mine who the day he bumbed into him how his mother had sat him down and told him to push life further and not give up to become a thug.

According to him, his mom had shed tears and it got to him. He decided to start afresh by leaving the environment he was well known. There, he learnt a skill. Digital Marketing to be precise and he succeeded. This was how he got connected to lots of influencial people and that's was how he found himself where he is now. According to him, the exact words his mother used was "Create A Sunshine".

Is that story true?

It's a great story! And that's why we can't limit ourselves to learning just one trade, because we don't know what life brings us... for example, I studied Interior Design, and thank God I'm working in a company on that, but nobody knows if at the end of the day I'll end up painting, or giving dance classes, or English, or painting classes... luckily since I was a little girl I've learned to do many things, and I didn't neglect my studies because of that.

But that reality of Jacob, is a reality that happens to many of the athletes and dancers in the world, and that's why parents often do not support them 100%.

You are correct. Jacob placed all his hopes on one dream alone, neglecting education in the process and this actually cost him for a while. I guess he was lucky that life was on his side just in time. It may never have ended well for others. Above all, learning to create a new way out of a situation is great. So we don't stare too long at the closed doors and never noticed the ones open for us.

Yup, that´s what we all should do.
