Frequent rains, increasingly frequent fogs, annoying wind and cold nights still failed to take away the squirrels' familiar vivacity and constant desire for action. They continued to search even the most hidden gorges and nooks in the forest.
Here, they have been busy preparing for the winter for several days. Even the cubs, who diligently help their parents, took care of that. It's all interesting to them, like what kind of game, so they don't understand how important the work they do is.
For little squirrels, which were born last spring, collecting food for the winter is a new job. But they watch carefully what their parents, brothers and other family members do, so they learn very quickly. If only you could see how diligently, cunningly and with a lot of energy they collect winter!
Searching for all kinds of seeds became their favourite pastime, so they combined the beautiful with the use in the best way. They compete to find a bigger hazelnut, a fresher cone, a harder beech or a tastier acorn.
Having collected a sufficient amount of food, they now need to think about how best to put it together and what kind of warehouse will be the most suitable. But squirrels are very resourceful, so they immediately found several solutions, more hiding places that could be used for this purpose: a hole in a pine tree, a pit in the root of a beech tree or an abandoned nest.
Now everything is ready, and at the right time, because winter is getting closer. There is a concern everywhere whether squirrels from different parts of the forest will be able to remember where they left their food reserves?
Of course, it will! When frost and ice cover the entire forest, the oldest and most experienced squirrels from the family will easily remember where they left their winter.
