"Precision with Perfection" - Mango Cutter or Human Machine #marketfriday

in GEMS4 years ago

The translucent Mango and the flamy Chilli make the best accompaniment to any meal.

Go to any Indian home and easily find home made pickle and that too of many variety Mango, Lemon,Ginger, Jackfruit and many infact, Indians were quite popular of making pickle out any thing. While Mango pickle is the most common in many homes.

The hunt for making Mango pickle starts with the onset of mango season. People started to look out for good raw mangos to make home made pickle. So the same goes at my home too. While making pickle is not a one day work, but the preparation requires a lot.

First, we need to choose good raw Mango and then cut/chopped them into equal pieces. This season we able to sourced some good quality Mango from a known one, now the headache lies in cutting them.

It was always advised to have the Mango cut in the shop because the fruit is so hard that normal knife at home won’t do and one might end up harming themselves.

Now looking out for mango cutter in maeket is bit difficult, considering we were still.in lockdown. However there was some relaxation during evening time and luckily I found one sitting on the street, quite busy in chopping with precision.

It take a lot of force for cutting the raw mangos because of the hardness inside. I looked at the way he was busy cutting Mangos with ease with his knife tool.

It was a wooden plank and a heavy iron axe knife fitted onto it. There is a handle bar to hold it properly. Every time he lifts, place the mango beneath the blade and slasshhh... I have seen a raw mango cutting into small pieces. Lifting the blade and bringing it down with lot of strength to get mango pieces.

He kept on doing, with ease. That why the experince speaks a lot. May novice like.me won't able to do like he was doing. First cutting a raw mango into half then each part get chopped into small pieces.

I negotiated the price, and sets in for my turn, as we mango season so he was quite busy with his work. It took me 20 min when I get my turn. I have 15 Mango and for that he asked for Rs.10. quite cheaper. He was sitting on the streets, on a sack and place everything nearly, so that he does need to work. Even his work says it all, how perfectly he is doing his work.

Here are few more pictures I have taken, in between my waiting period. He kept cutting them with perfection like a human machine. Men at work

Interestingly, when he saw me clicking his photos, he smiled and said, kya karoge bhaiya (what you will do with the pic).

On which, I jokingly said,

"I will put you behind bars for chopping so many Mangos",

and we both laughed.🙂

Luckily I found him, to get pickle preparation underway at my home too. The process of pickle making will be explained later, as it won't be made in one day.😉

Denise, (i.e @dswigle) some fresh stuff from Indian street market. Finally after many months, I made it for a short walk to our local market, and able to snap one of the busiest guy during Mango season. He usually cuts 100 Kg (approx) of Mango in a single day, that what he told me.

Hope the tangy taste gives a sweet memory down under.

Stay Home.....Stay Safe!!

Namaste @steemflow

This is indeed a very unique tool..
We're so fortunate to have real kitchen tools that sometimes, we don't realised just how difficult it can be for others.

Such tool we never keep on kitchen....and even cutting a mango need some specialised tool which only available on the market...it had weight too approg 2 kg

Wow !! That's a heavy too for the use of the kitchen

This was awesome @steemflow! For the life of me, I would never be able to cut up a hard mango like that!! That is an enviable knife that he has, but, even with that tool, I am not sure I would have the power to cut it like that! Even for a man, that needs to be a learned skill!

I am so happy you got your mangos and that we will be able to watch you as you put your mango pickles together! I have never seen the process, only tasted it, so I hope to not miss it! Thank you so much for bringing us to the market and for showing this gentleman off! Excellent post!
