Dalia Khichdi (broken wheat khichdi)

Today I am here to share with you a healthy khichdi recipe made with broken wheat(Dalia). Before sharing the recipe would like to share with you the benefits of dalia. It's like a medicine for For those who are suffering from constipation. Dalia is rich in fiber to cure constipation and also helps to increase metabolism. Dalia is a good source of micronutrients; it's helpful for those who are health conscious.

You can have it any time of the day. Dalia helps to keep our tummy full for a long time; as it digests slowly. I used different vegetables to make dalia khichdi. Several dishes can be made with dalia. Diabetic patients can remain healthy to keep dalia in their diet chart. One most important thing is that we women generally always have a risk factor for breast cancer. As dalia have a lot of fiber in it helps lower the risk of increasing breast cancer; then others who didn't consume enough fiber in their daily food chart. I hope; this information is helpful for you all. So, let start to make dalia's khichdi.

Ingredients:-

  1. Dalia(broken wheat)- 2 cups.

  2. Yellow lentils- 1 cup.

  3. Potato- 1 medium (diced).

  4. Green Peas- 1/2 cup.

  5. Cauliflower- 1 cup(florets).

  6. Bay leaf- 1no.

  7. Cumin seeds- 1/2 tsp.

  8. Dry red chilies- 2( halves).

  9. Turmeric powder- 1tsp.

  10. Mustard oil- 2tbsp or more as required.

  11. Ghee- 2tbsp.

  12. Salt-To taste.

  13. Green chilies- 2-3(slit).

Preperation Method:-

Step 1- First rinse yellow lentils couple of times under running water.

Step 2- Add water in a pan. Once water will start boiling, add lentils into the boiling water.

Step 3- Cook lentils until 90% done. Then add green peas, salt. Stir well to mix.

Step 4- Now rinse Dalia couple of times. Transfer the Dalia into the pan mix well. Add turmeric powder, sugar(optinal). Stir well. Cook for 5-6 minutes on medium flame. Turn off flame and keep aside the pan.

Step 5- Now place another pan on medium flame. Add oil, once oil heated well; add bay leaf, dry red chilies, cumin seeds. Saute for few seconds.

Step 6- Next add potatoes, cauliflower. Fry them until golden on medium low flame.

Step 7- Once potatoes and cauliflower florets became light golden in colour, transfer Dalia khichdi into the pan.

Step 8- Add little water, mix well. Now add ghee(clarified butter). Combine all ingredients well.

Step 9- Check salt at this stage, if required then add some more salt. Next add green chilies. Mix well. Cover the pan and turn off the flame.

Step 10- After 5 minutes open the lid and khichdi is ready to serve with brinjal fry and papad. (those who are non-vegetarian can have khichdi with omlet).
