testing out my new 200-600mm Lens

in my Once in a blue moon post I shared a shot of the new lens I have and I set it up in the backyard and tried a few test shots that I will share in this post

Starting with this shot of the ornament at the bottom of one of the Windchimes we have in our garden

And another one of the decorations we have in our garden, this time with a shorter exposure to show the leaves on it rotating in the background

This ornament we picked dup in Milford not long before we packed and moved here to New Bedford, and this shot I took a faster exposure to show the detail of it, I think its pretty cool and we enjoy watching it in the garden.

Now one of the reasons I wanted the new 200-600 Lens was to get shots of birds, so I had to do a test shot of some birds, all be it not the type of birds I am planning to get shots of, but good enough for this post.

This is one of three bird feeders we bought and the next shot will explain why we bought three

These little characters although fun to watch are a real pain, they literally destroyed the first two feeders, literally pulling them apart, , so I got this third one which supposedly was squirrel proof, well maybe for some squirrels but not the ones we have here, they have ripped open the top of the feeder and bent some of the cage so they can get in and get the bird feed as this one is here. But I haven't given up on feeders completely, we do have tw humming bird feeders in the garden, and have at least one hummingbirds visiting and that will, however, be a future post ;)

Wow, I like the results you are getting with your new lens. Pretty darn cool.

Squirrels are just rats with fluffy tails. You need to have Sam come visit for a bit. He'd at least keep them up off the ground :) And have a lot of fun doing it!

Ohh yeah I do agree maybe I need one if Sans relations lol If one engages he gets !ENGAGE 25 from me

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

Hm, I wanted to say I'm impressed by the quality this lens offers, but to be honest it's more than that and I envy you a quite bit for it.

These are great shots JJ, and as said before, I can really imagine the fun you have photographing with it 😁

By the way: ask Jo @redheadpei how many hummingbird feeders she has bought this year - her squirrels are raccoons 😉

Thanks
The squirrels are leaving the humming bird feeders alone but attack all the others got a !tip today to spray wd40 on the support for the feeder then they can’t climb up it I must try that

Cheers and !BEER

You're welcome JJ 😀
WD40? Are you sure the birds like it? But it's worth a try 😁

Cheers and !BEER

I should have said wd40 on the pole that supports the feeder that way the squirrels cannot climb it not on the feeder itself :)

Cheers and !BEER

Aha, now I understand 😁 and I suppose that there's no way for them to jump on the feeder.

Cheers and !BEER

Not if I put the feeders well away from the fence

If one engages he gets !ENGAGE 25 from me

Good idea, because I have seen squirrels jump quite long distances 😉

Cheers and !BEER

All good. :-)

Lol, you must have super power birds and squirrels there... :) ...either that or the feed you're offering must be delicious! :D

Edit: Great job with the shots too! :) Looking forward to more from this lens

I think the squirrels here are on steroids LOL

Hahaha... In fact those birds look kinda muscular too... :D

well yeah I see what you mean LOL

Wow, that is pretty impressive. Looks like you picked up a really nice lens there. You try to get any shots of the meteor shower the past couple of nights or is the light pollution too much around you?

It has been pretty cloudy here the last few nights so no real visibility of the shower, but i did get some shots of hummingbirds

Some really impressive results you got there! Looks like you are having a lot of fun with it! Love that garden ornament - that is TOTALLY the kind of thing I would put in my garden :) !tip

Love your new wind spinner. I have 8 in my yard, but two have about seen their better days.

Squirrels.... on the one hand I'd like to love those fuzzy creatures, but trying to have bird feeders can really make me not like them. I don't feed the birds in the summer, so they only get to irritate me in the winter.

That’s what I am thinking just use the bird feeders in winter and see how it goes

Pretty lawn decorations Jay. Squirrels can mischievous, They are clever little critters.

Glad to know you have moved and back in action now on Hive.😊

@johannpiber is right - I had to buy 3 different hummingbird feeders because the darn raccoon destroyed them trying to drink the sugared water. I bring this last feeder in at night now before the bandit comes by on his nightly rounds.🐼

... and as long as you don't forget to bring it in it will stay alive 😁
Good morning and
Cheers and !BEER

So far so good Johann @johannpiber 😀

The raccoon still has this place as one of his nightly rounds.😙

Happy Friday!

He is always hoping that you forget to take it inside 😉
Happy Friday to you too 😀

WellI must say I am glad to be back and also glad touch wood I am not tempting fate that we do not have racoons here

It’s good to see you back Jay @tattoodjay. The raccoon can get to this feeder easily because it is on the back deck post which he can get on the railing and climb. He doesn’t bother the hummingbird feeder at the front because it is hanging higher up and no pole to help him get to it.

Animals seem to always find a way to get what they want nop matter what we do lOL

That's a classic lens for a classic photographer and you already have it under your knee JJ, judging by these shots.

Some advice about the squirrels, set up a seperate area and every day put down a handful of peanuts in the shell for them. They will then not trouble the bird feeders. But beware, squirrels will spread the news and soon move in with their families. So then, like us you will have to buy a 5kg pack of peanutsc every week hahaha.

Great shots here mate!

Blessings!

That is good advice but not sure we want more squirrels visiting us LOL

I have decided to hold off on feeding the birds for now but come late fall we will

Well, I hope that you don't get a surprise come fall and winter, as our squirrels are very busy here during those seasons lol.

I think or expect them to be busy here so we will try your idea

Hahaha, you will see them burying peanuts all over the place in fall to keep astores for winter and they can become great little friends if one handles them well. We feed them at the front garden and our feeders are in the back garden.
Hope one will become so used to you guys that she will become like our "Squirry" here 😃

All I can say is time will tell I am not sure I am an animal whisperer like you guys

Hahaha, "animal whisperers" you say?
Learn to love mother nature and her residents and they will love you right back my friend.
You will soon get used to their habits in your new life, as you now have ample time in your to study them.
I can tell you that once your really start to take an interest, many pleasant surprises will be waiting for you.

We have been visiting a rocky patch on the beach for a while now and the one Egret has gotten used to me.
He no longer flies away when I come near and just the other day, he caught a few fishes in the surf right in front of me. Animals can sense when someone presents a danger to them.

Blessings!

Great!
