SUPPORTING LOCAL INDUSTRIES DURING SECOND LOCKDOWN

in GEMS3 years ago (edited)

As most people have already known, Malaysia underwent a second lockdown yesterday on the 14th October 2020. This lockdown is implemented due to soaring COVID-19 cases after an election held in the state of Sabah which is located about 2.5 hours flight away from Kuala Lumpur. Apparently, certain politicians and voters refused to remain in quarantine for 14 days after returning to Peninsula Malaysia. During critical days, the numbers of infected patients escalated up to 500 cases per day. For the time-being, the total number of COVID-19 cases in Malaysia is around 18,129.

My last supper meal in a food court before the lockdown was as followed. Hakka Lei Cha or Thunder Tea is a unique dish that existed back in the days of the Three Kingdoms. It is a delicious vegetable, rice and tea based dish brought by Hakka immigrants to Malaysia. There are so many types of vegetables and herbs included that I almost lost count of all ingredients.

Hakka Lei Cha

Some common vegetables included in Lei Cha were long beans, celery, Chinese mustard green, Choy Sum (mustard family), spinach, dried sweet turnip, gourd, tofu, roasted peanuts and toasted sesame seeds. The herbaceous soup consisted of Oolong or green tea, Thai basil, mint, coriander, garlic, ginger, roasted peanuts, toasted sesame seeds and salt. There are two ways to eat this dish; take a bite of rice with vegetables then take a sip of the green herbaceous soup or pour the soup into the vegetable rice mixture to be eaten like gruel.

Since I will be visiting my father tomorrow, I went on a retail therapy at a local organic shop. This particular shop known as NGO Grocer carried many local brands I love such as Biogreen, Tai's Choice, Wendy's, Titi Eco Farm and more. I bought several items for my father since he has stage four cancer so he needs organics food with better nutritional value.

The shop only had one other customer when I was there. I guessed most people were too scared and financially stressed out to visit retail stores after the lockdown. Overall, I had a very pleasurable shopping experience. They offer delivery services for online shoppers as well. Doing my part to support local businesses during tough times.

Thank you for reading!

Have a wonderful week!

Very interesting meal and a very nice shop!

Thank you! I am very glad this particular food stall still survives. Green tea has very high antioxidant content. Great in boosting the immune system. I will continue supporting them as frequently as possible.
