National Geographic issue april review. Talking about air pollution

This is my latest video review of the National Geographic magazine, april issue 216. I liked this one a lot because it talks about air pollution.

When you see the statistics which show that almost 7 millions deaths per year are caused by filthy poluted air, you start to reconsider everything. India, Ulan Bator, places from USA and Europe are all affected by this.

In 2019 1.7 millions Indians died prematurely because of the poor quality of the air. This is killing more people than the coronavirus and very few know this. The improved quality of the air because of the lockdowns actually saved lives in 2020, almost 9000 and 24000 according to some studies. This number exceeds the number of lives taken by the virus in some places.
In this issue we can also read interesting stories about the Florida puma, the insects from the Amazon forests and the women from Ukraine who have been serving in their job working at the train station for decades.

What I think that it is very important to take from this month’s issue is our care towards the air we breathe. We all contribute to this. Try to ride a bicycle whenever you can, walk on foot (you would be surprised on how little people walk these days, try to monitor your own week and see how often you actually walk instead of driving or sitting on your desk) ,use your car less often or go electric and avoid burning plastic and other bad materials. We need fresh clean air more than we realize daily and in the upcoming years people will start to realize it when the case pulmonary diseases will increase in numbers. We already have so many kids suffering from asthma, I think that building a better future for them should start from fulfilling this very basic vital need for clean air.

Have a great day and toodle loo!

Such a nice work, @creativemary.

Air pollution is a somewhat neglected issue in many countries and needs to be addressed more urgently.

Thank you! I really take my time in creating these reviews and I am always happy when somebody sees the work. It is quite an overlooked subject as breathing seems kind of a default activity. The downside is that we can't actually see what we are breathing and therefore we consider it to be ok. It is not. I often notice that when I go out in more remote places, in forests and natural parks, the air is completely different. When I return in the city...it stings. I can smell the difference .
We should appreciate this thing called air so much more. I felt so much pity and compassion towards the people who live in countries so polluted that it is almost unsafe to take your kids out. Raising awareness is so important. Thank you for reading me!
