Utakai Hajime, the first tanka commpetition was taken place at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo, Japan. According to Wikipedia, it explains what is Utakai Hajime.
In 2020, the youngest ever participant was chosen, Ms. Akari Shinoda, and her tanka was,

Well, they have been doing this for 800 years. haha! Yup! I love how they cherish waka, tanka and haiku 😉👏 But, I love senryu the best!
