10 COMMENTS A DAY KEEPS THE BOREDOM AWAY

Today, I want to discuss something briefly and it has to do with engagement. I have noticed that engagement has been on a steady decline since the engage initiative by amr008.pob was discontinued.

The engagement initiative was a nice addition to the pob community, however, some people were gaming it so it had to be stopped, and we’ve not had any alternative since then. It would be nice to see someone come up with something sustainable.

The reality is that engagement needs to be incentivized for people to actively engage. It is a sad reality but it is true. I think the same applies to staking. People stake so they can have a larger share of the community’s resources and also influence.

SUGGESTION:

I think the most effective way to go about engagement would be to follow the ecency model. I think it would give the pob token a better use case.

Currently, the ecency app has a point system where people earn points for performing various activities ranging from voting, commenting, post, etc. These points can later be redeemed for upvotes or used to promote one’s content. This in my opinion is where proof of work meets proof of brain.

I think with a point system we can track the activities of community members (this gives me centralization vibes) and reward those who are actively engaging and using the POB frontend. So the development team can look into this. I think it is an idea worth considering.

Now, to the main discussion of the day, engagement. I have noticed that most of the posts on proofofbrain frontend average zero comments and you find most authors posting twice or thrice a day. I find it strange that authors continue to churn out content without feedback.

Most times when I see a post without engagement I tend to either comment or ignore it, especially when I notice the author isn’t making any effort to promote their content. That, in my option, is a total disregard for the creative process. If you don’t care about engagement or promoting your content I honestly don't think you deserve to earn anything.

One of the easiest ways to get engagement on your post is by engaging with other people’s posts. It is the simple law of reciprocity. I believe if i make the conscious effort to engage with people and give meaningful feedback, there is a chance that they would reciprocate.

I came across the idea of making 10 comments per day before making a post some time ago, and that has been my standard for engagement. I try to engage with a least ten persons a day on the chain.

I think if every active user tries this formula we will have more engagement on the chain and communities. Also, I think this is a great time for newbies to establish themselves in the POB community and hive by being more visible through engagement.

Unfortunately, posting regularly won’t give you the exposure you need because the reality is most people aren’t reading, especially posts from accounts they are not familiar with. So your best chance of getting any form of attention is via engaging.

From my experience, I have discovered that it is a lot easier to come up with engaging content when you are actively consuming content. This is because you are aware of the trends and it is easy to tailor your content to meet people’s interests.

In conclusion, I will like to see the core team work on a different initiative to boost engagement. I will also like to see new users take on the challenge to engage more frequently. Cheers!

I didn't know engage was discontinued! You have some great ideas here. I don't think I would want it to be codified in any way, but it is important to remember that engagement matters.

!LUV

I agree with you dear

I wonder why your comment is short 🤔😜🤣 yeah, it's usually long full of so much sense to form a new post 😃

Hee hee. I am trying to be more concise. It's an uphill battle.

Well it was and for the reason I gave--people where gaming the system.

I don't think I would want it to be codified in any way, but it is important to remember that engagement matters.

Well, I like to see engagement improve. If it can be incentivized, great! At the end of the day, we want a more pleasurable social experience

Hello Nonso! This is the first post of yours I've read and I'm glad I did.

I'm a newbie and constantly looking for tips to help me on my journey with Hive. I took the tutorial of the Hive Guide and it helped me immensely. In it, 5 daily engagements were suggested to begin with. I haven't reached that yet but I'm setting that goal to 10 now.

Since we're on the subject of engagement, something that is helping me reach that goal has been reading a lot of posts and selecting what I find helpful like this one. These will be the people I'll follow to keep me in good posts to respond to. Trying to determine what to post is not an issue at all. I need to work on getting in the habit of making those 10 comments a day first. And thank you for your contributions!

Well, I glad you found this post useful. It is a goal of mine to offer people meaningful knowledge to help them navigate the hive ecosystem more smoothly. Engagement is an important part of the hive blockchain. It is almost impossible not to succeed here if you are giving other people meaningful feedback.

I hope you find your time here fruitful. Cheers!

I always try to comment even though the author's don't leave room for one. My mentor has thought me the importance of engagement... This i plan to carry out a lot.

Well if you are following his advice then you are on to a great start. I do understand that certain posts aren't engaging but with a little search, you can find something interesting to read and then build a nice following of active authors who create engaging posts.

Alright. That's true too. There is always a way.

I ve been trying to keep up with this as @bhoa had taught me.

And I must say it has gone a long way helping me stay visible.

About the incentives, I think it will bring the "gaming" thing up again. Lets just engage for what its worth on the chain and not for the incentives that may come from it.

Thanks for this post

He is doing well by teaching you guys the basics

You can never go wrong with being active

The question on my mind: those the benefit out weight the potential cons? If so I will willing to give it a shot.

Well, no it doesn't.

You are right.
I'd rather give it a try too.

This is nice, I hope more people get to read this and let's start the 10 or more comments before a post everyday, that would surely increase engagement level on this platform.

Newbies get more visible through their comments, no doubt about that... That helped me a lot when I started too 😊

Nicely written, let's hope something changes after people read this post 🥺

Certainly. People need to see the need for engagement. If we were all posting and hoping to earn without engaging this space will be a zombie town. That's not good for old and new users.

You are doing well in this department. I knew when you started here and how you always engaged, that is how I discovered your account. I wish other newbies will take the cue.

Thank you very much. We can only hope for the best. Cheers!

I seriously don't want to imagine that, I hope we take engagement more serious than we are doing now.

Thanks 😊

I see your points in the ecency pattern suggestion. And I believe that it would change a lot in engagement if initiated.

It is true that no want reads content of those who they don’t recognize anymore with the hip of posts being uploaded everyday.

I personally type some username when I log in to check if they have new posts, not because I am proud (how many upvote power do I even have, to be proud on), but because those people are like families already, I feel like I know them, and it’s not through their posts but the level of engagement we have got.

It’s advisable to create awareness through engagement, if one wants to earn something tangible out of the community

It is very common and okay for people to stay within the herd or better put, within familiar spaces. This is why the onus is on the newbie to push for engagement most times because most people would rather consume content from those they have established some form of relationship with.

That is a great way to increase engagement with other Hivers. I also tried to read other posts and left comments when I found their posts interesting. I didnt have a lot of time but I think even leaving 1 to 2 comments for the valuable post helps

well i understand that people have other things to do rather than scan their feeds for hours, in search of quality content but if you have a nice following, I think that would make engaging a lot easier.

Engagement is really necessary.you only get known when you engage in other people's post.
If majority can put into consideration 10 comment per day them engagement level will increase

This sums up my post nicely. Thanks for taking your time to read. Cheers!

That post has got a lot of ideas and hidden fact to do well on hive..i can't just ignore it... 🥂cheers to make hive a better place

Your idea is good @nonsowrites but some people even when you just finished engaging with them and you make a post, they won't even comment or upvote I wouldn't know why but all the same engaging is good.
Thanks for sharing your ideas with us!

We should manage our expectation. I believe if you genuinely connect with people they will reciprocate. So the focus should be on connecting not just commenting alkne

Thanks for sharing your ideas with us!

The pleasure is all mine

So the focus should be on connecting not just commenting alkne

Every content I engage the author in is genuine, I do it with my whole heart because I learn from them as well, I believe it's connection too and not just commenting

I think that will pay off in no time. I will stop and read some of your posts. Using the weekend to rest and recharge for the coming week. Cheers!

Thanks a lot, I'd appreciate that

There is no substitute for engagement, it is very sad that the engagenebt program has to end.

And I hope that soon, some will look into these your suggestion.

Well, while someone tries to come up with a new initiative we can all work towards engaging with each other and creating engaging content

I used to do easily upto 30comments a day ( until I fell ill)
Sadly with pob frontend being the way it is I find it hard to find posts and respond.
Commenting does bring attention to your posts and helps you reach wider as you mention.
The Ecency model is worth emulating.
Sadly, I have noticed that even small community owners /mods don't respond to posts causing Communities to die out faster.

Sorry about that. I can't begin to imagine how difficult it is for you.

I do get that finding quality content can be difficult but I think over time while building a nice following, it becomes a lot easier

Tested and trusted!

Yeah, I do like their point system. I even bought some to reward content I like since my upvote isn't worth much

Oh well, we just have to do what we can. It's not possible to get everyone's attention

Thanks for stopping by. I appreciate your comment

I do try my best to engage but I haven’t really thought about the ten comments a day thingy. I think I will give it a try though because it sounds a lot like fun because commenting means making more friends, and when has making more friends never been fun… 😅

Yeah, you should give it a shot. It isn't much of a huge task, in my opinion. Just find 10 unique authors to engage with daily. It might be through your content or their content. Whatever the case may just try and I believe you would start to see a positive result both in earning and engagement on your post.

Alright. I already started though and I have a very good feeling about this.

Yeah. Give it 2-3months. You will begin to see the impact. Thanks for stopping by. I appreciate your comment

This is fabulous! 10 comments a day is easily achievable by anyone, yet how many of us will do it and reap the rewards?

Many do not see the value in engagement which is unfortunate because without it one cannot grow significantly on a social platform like ours.
