Recently, I have seen how often people in different cities and countries go to rallies against the restrictions associated with the restrictions during Covid 19. I am not creating this post to agitate someone to get vaccinated but to show how everything happened identically 200-300 years ago and now. With the same slogans. Although we are talking about quite terrible diseases like plague and cholera.
Plague riot in the Russian Empire
The Black Death ravaged Moscow in the 14th and 17th centuries. In the enlightened era of Catherine II, the plague returned again - and, although science had achieved considerable success by that time, medicine in many respects remained at the level of almost antiquity. However, doctors at least tried to overcome epidemics, but the monstrous ignorance of ordinary people often became a decisive factor.
In 1771, soldiers, returning from the Russian-Turkish war, brought the plague to Moscow. Security measures were neglected, so the plague spread very quickly. By July 1771, a thousand people a day were dying in Moscow.
Unfortunately, the measures taken by the authorities were shattered by the unwillingness of ordinary people to carry them out. Peasants continued to go to the city to earn money, merchants carried their goods. They either bypassed the outposts by forests or paid off the soldiers, who are as illiterate as themselves. It was not possible to stop the plague - while it was cold, the epidemic did not spread too quickly, but with the onset of heat it became widespread.
And if at first people tried to adhere to restrictions, then in September mass riots began, and 250 years ago, on September 26, 1771, the famous plague riot began in Moscow, connected precisely with disbelief in scientific methods of fighting infection - and belief in miracles. Rumors spread among the people that there was an icon that could protect against the plague. It was erected over the Barbarian Gate of Kitai-Gorod, and people flocked to climb the stairs and kiss the icon, creating a dense crowd within which the disease spread like wildfire.
People ignored peaceful attempts to stop all this, and therefore General Pyotr Yeropkin took matters into his own hands, who had to use the army to break up the riot.
Cholera riot in the Russian Empire
In 1816, the weather was very cold (this year was even called "the year without summer"), the bacteria mutated - and then the cholera epidemic began. In 1830, the epidemic reaches Russia and grows by leaps and bounds. Each part of the city had one main infirmary and one spare. The merchants were voluntarily obliged to allocate funds for their arrangement.
In St. Petersburg, the first case was recorded in June 1831. Panic begins, a ban on entry to St. Petersburg is introduced - people are indignant, discontent is growing. Then a decree is issued stating that cholera patients should not walk the streets and infect others. The police had to take them all to the infirmaries.
People began to resent the restrictions and the quarantine. And the main thing! Many argued that there was no cholera, doctors deliberately infect people and this is a conspiracy (Does it look like anything?).
Discontent is growing among the people - and on June 22, a real riot flares up. The insane crowd smashed everything they saw, caught cholera carriages, and released the sick, the carriages themselves broke. People destroyed the cholera infirmaries and killed doctors.
Needless to say, after that, the number of deaths increased significantly? Keep yourselves! So that in 200 years people will not laugh at our generation.

You are conflating a disease (covid) with a survival of 99.5% with those of 30 - 50% plus (plague and cholera).
The death rate of covid matches that of a seasonal flu or slightly higher even with the Delta variant. It can not even be compared to the Spanish Flu even after a year and half.
Doctors are saying that covid has reached the endemic phase, meaning that it will always be there in the background, just like a seasonal flu, meaning we are going to have to learn to live with it, as more countries (Croatia, Norway, Sweden) are deciding to do and drop controls and allow their citizens the free choice of whether to vaccinate or not.
What is however increasing are vaccine deaths and injuries.
So it is no surprise that people are protesting over the fear mongering of the media and governments increasingly resorting to totalitarian control measures that now, after a year and half have been proven not to work.
New Zealand and Australia shut their borders and locked their citizens up with some of the most extreme controls in the world. Yet it has not stopped Covid.

Apparently, I was not quite understood correctly with this post. I do not compare all these diseases but simply showed the historical fact that at all times people did not want to trust medicine and organized various riots and pickets.
It was surprising to me that 200 years ago, and today the main slogans are the same phrases. I honestly thought that this is a "trick" of the covid pandemic, but no.
I did not call anyone to be vaccinated or something like that but just told the historical facts.
Well, for example, in my country (Ukraine), the number of deaths from covid is increasing, and not from side effects due to vaccination. Because people don't want to give themselves an injection. There have always been negative consequences from any vaccine, but. But recently a little girl in my country (she was several months old) contracted polio due to the fact that her parents refused vaccinations.
This is not so much a problem of covid as a problem of those people who, having all the necessary vaccinations, substitute their children and condemn them to a disability or even death. Given that the polio vaccine is almost 100 years old.
