FungiFriday: Rounded earthstar

This is the result of a mushroom walk roughly a week ago. There is a mushroom spot that I often visit in the local forest, and the previous two days it had been raining for three days in a row.

Definitely! You have high expectations that you will find so many mushrooms there. But unexpectedly, the spot, which is usually overgrown with fungus, was damaged erratically. Damn it!

I suspect a herd of wild boars—perhaps other "irresponsible pigs"—must have ruined it. Yes, they often scavenge the soil to hunt for earthworms.

Luckily, at least I found a few rounded earthstars lying here and there.

If you've never seen a mushroom like this, you'd think it was some kind of flower that fell from the tree. But in fact, it is a mushroom whose fruiting body parts are shaped like flower petals.

Geastrum saccatum is the scientific name of a species of fungus belonging to the family Geastraceae . The fruiting body of the mushroom, in the shape of a flower petal, is very susceptible to fracture.

The juvenile mushrooms that have not split their fruiting bodies look like onions, and if you touch them a little, they will dent.

Thanks @sreypov. This kind of fungus must be quite common in Cambodia :)
