Mister Hoof

Look, look what we have here.

They settled in the heart of the city, while I'm scrambling around in the woods looking for the same one peeking from somewhere.

Three plump mushrooms, Hoof fungus.
I bet you saw it hanging on a beech tree.

They belong to the Polyporaceae family and are distinguished by their thick, brownish bark. They appear to be quite adaptable to their surroundings, which suggests that they are parasites!

Yes, when you see them attached to the trunk of a tree, you know that tree is infected, rotten and about to die.

No gills! But a bunch of spores, what I learned recently is that sniffing the shrooms isn't always the best idea, same as touching.

Sorry @ewkaw, I'm still a beeep!*

Why not inhale them?
Mushrooms are made of spores, and as this parasitic species, you can plant some in your body, in case your immune system is weaker, by inhaling "fungal dust"

When we found a puffball in the garden the other day, I was intrigued by its texture and instinctively brought it to my nose and smelled it, knowing that mushrooms are edible.

But, Hoof is poisonous, so keep your petty paws away!

Perfect place, moisture, shade, sun, grow!
These mushrooms can grow to be quite large in size, not sure how much you can see it but this tree trunk is huge, so the fungus are.

In another close-up of the wrinkled crust, there is the mushroom's bottom, a dull grey colour, Hoof is difficult to be separated from the tree because it is attached to it with all its surface, one would say bad romance.
