more fall fungi

in FungiFridaylast year (edited)

this is my contribution to FungiFriday by @ewkaw

i haven't had much on my plate recently so when i got the chance to get out looking for more i was eager to go. although it is too late in the season for a number of species, after all the rain we have had there are still plenty of mushrooms around. and even though we had a very dry summer it has been an exceptional fall for fungi here in norway.

the best bet for edible ones here now in november is funnel chanterelle or yellowlegs (Craterellus tubaeformis)

these little guys can be hard to spot because they are not tall and blend so well in among all the fallen leaves but if you manage to find some...

it is well worthwhile to slow down and look carefully around because there can be many of them in the same area and once you've trained your eye to spot them you may fill your basket rather quickly

sometimes they can be found alone...

or in pairs...

or clusters...

and soon enough the basket is full

back home again, there are far to many to eat right away. so we dried some...

and froze some and still had plenty of fresh ones to fill the plate for dinner.
