As a verified onboarder and Coordinator of a Hive hub, I care so much about getting new users to experience digital freedom on Hive. For close to a week now, I have planned with the owner of Debestars minimart @bestars to do a small workshop and onboard some of the new customers and friends she invited. Happily 5 of them showed up.
Presentation and onboarding
Debestars minimart located at 196 Ohanku road Aba was the location of the workshop. Once 3 of the 5 friends came, I started the presentation. First of all, I explained what Hive is and why it's a lot different from traditional social media like Facebook. Then I also showed how Hive is a lot like normal social media with features like sharing articles, liking posts and having followers. But Hive is different with content ownership and decentralized rewards.
Once the presentation is over in 45 minutes, those in attendance 5 in total had a good knowledge of what Hive is all about. They quickly downloaded the Hive keychain wallet app and Ecency. It was easy to help them create the accounts through keychain. It took 3 Hive to pay for each account.
Once they each had their accounts, they checked in through the check-in with.xyz. This easy application helps newbies to make their first content while giving the Hive platform a brief introduction about them. A selfie with me the trusted onboarder is also required. Because the entire system is streamlined and easy, it did not take more than 10 minutes for each person to get onboarded.
Next we assisted them to set up their Hive profile which helps visitors to have. A glimpse of who the account owner is. Once that is done, they learned how to create waves using the Ecency app. I would like to share some links of their first waves so you can connect with them. Check the first 3 onboarded newbies:
Each of the onboarded newbies got 2 HBD to practice their first HBD transaction. They purchased groceries with the HBD at Debestars minimart. We also made sure to demonstrate how to claim discounts using distriator. Each of them were happy to scan to pay with HBD. Afterwards, they practised claiming discounts which completed although the discounts were not received as distriator app is undergoing maintenance. But the friends all learnt how to buy with HBD and promised to always shop with HBD.
At the end of it all, I encouraged the newbies to explore the courses meant for them - #journeyofahivean courses. We also encouraged them to build their profile on Hive through active and meaningful engagement. And with consistency, they will go far.

Next at the hub
I already planned to also mentor Cynthia @ogesbeauty who is one of the most active newbies I onboarded on Friday at Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic. I was a little bit late because of the workshop at Debestars minimart. Once I arrived at Happy Customer Supermarket, I sat with Cynthia and explained a lot of things.
The things she learned included how to make quality short content and proper engagement on Hive. She also asked questions and understood other terms like Hive power, Ecency Points and HP delegation. She was also happy to be helped to discover niche communities that matches her passion.
Finally, she spent the 2 HBD she got when she was onboarded two days agos. Since the onboarding was done outside the hub, there was no way to claim discount, which she did today.
Cynthia came with her niece who was happy to learn about Hive and got onboarded too. She got her 2 HBD as well and also claimed discount after spending it. She enjoyed every aspect of the conversation and even shared her first wave as you can see below.
