Lubricated

There's a few things I do daily and getting lubricated is certainly one of those things - There's nothing quite like getting lubricated to make things more pleasurable - Lubricated by drinking coffee I mean; I enjoy it, but some days I enjoy it far more than others and today will be one of those days.

I used to spend a lot of time during my working week sitting in café's meeting clients and working - It meant I was well-lubricated with a lot of good quality coffee.

Since my job changed recently it happens less as I'm mostly office-bound during a learning phase - It'll revert though. Anyway, this means, and don't judge me here, that I'm drinking more instant coffee than barista-made coffee - I know, it's shameful. I generally drink two cups a day and whilst I enjoy the flavour and act of sipping my coffee...Well, it's not the best quality and overall the enjoyment factor is low when compared against the great coffee I used to drink every day. Sitting at one's desk sipping instant coffee isn't very inspiring at all.

Having said that, I suppose that average-to-low quality instant coffee makes me appreciate the real thing a lot more and makes it more special when I do have it - Like I will today.

For as long as I can recall I've said things like, let's have coffee, or I'll meet you for coffee, or some such comment. Coffee became synonymous with social engagement, almost a requirement - whether coffee was the drink of choice didn't actually matter - It was the social aspect of the meeting that mattered, somehow coffee came to mean social engagement.

During the week a friend of mine messaged and said, I miss you G-dog, when are we catching up for coffee? She doesn't actually drink coffee but there's that concept I mentioned above again - She knows I will drink it, and it's really just code for social engagement. I said yes.

I used to work with this girl in my last job and we got a long really well over the last five or so years becoming quite good friends and we catch up now and then, not often because we're busy, but when we do it's often fun. It's like hanging out with a man actually, like one of my bro's. Not that she's not feminine and girly, just that she has a lot of the same ideals as I do and the same sense of humour - I don't need to watch what I say and can just be me. It's often good fun.

I'm looking forward to the catch up in a hour or two, the cooked breakfast I'll order, the laughs and the lubrication of course, the coffee.

We're heading to a café right by a lake and will sit outside in the alfresco area watching the world go by, people-watch, talk about whatever stuff comes to mind and I'll enjoy a couple cups of the good stuff - Coffee. She's a tea drinker and will order some sort of fancy thing but I won't hold that against her - The company is too good.

I'm a quality over quantity sort of guy and whilst I don't always have to have the best of everything, I appreciate good quality and will often hold out for it. These days one can get a half-decent coffee just about anywhere: The corner shop, service station, street vendor or café as there's a million of them around. For me though, a good coffee isn't always just about the coffee itself, it's about the moment whether it's a solitary moment or with a friend or small group. Sure, one can have the same moment without a cup of coffee but somehow, for me at least, the coffee has become part of those social engagements and seems to lubricate the moment as little, making it work better. Do you feel the same?

I do feel the same! Coffee, great coffee, it's all about the experience. Not long ago, I worked at a café for quite some time. We paid attention to every little detail that would make the moment better for the customers: from the lighting and temperature of the room to the shape of the cup, all with the goal of enhancing the taste of the grain of coffee we sold. I got used to having almost all my social gatherings around a cup of coffee, perfectly paired with some pastries or something similar. Since covid-19, I've also become very good at recreating this ambiance and tasting experience at home, for when it has been necessary to stay indoors.

It's interesting how the right tone or mood can effect the overall moment. I often say that good company can make average food great and I guess that's the mood thing again.

I'm not into loud cafes and prefer more natural environments usually but there's a few places that I'd say I've felt very comfortable and that's due to the tone of the place as you allude to.

And I agree, it's possible to create that at home and is sometimes better. The right mood and company and all.

One of the most important part of the coffee tasting experience is it flavour.

Great quote👍 Tomorrow isn't promised so be humble and kind

Coffee certainly is about the tasting experience.

Coffee is just about the only plant-based item I injest anymore. I can't tell you how amazing it is on those days where the warm, dark elixir of the gods is so perfect it feels as if it is literally warming your soul!

Bro!

OK, I'll admit I kinda missed you. Lol.

Oh yeah, I'm with you on the coffee...I have Nespresso at home which I love as it's always perfectly consistent and I love me a barista-made brew too...That instant stuff? Ah hell, I'll take it when there's no options.

I definitely missed everyone and the amazing interactions and connections I was able to make. I'm slowly trying to wade back in and I've noticed quite a bit has changed lol I haven't made the Nespresso leap yet, but Im pretty fond of my Keurig. When it gives up the ghost, Im heading towards Nespresso Nirvana! I have a local coffee shop that makes the most beautiful sugar free salted caramel breve. It is an art form and one I hope to learn when I retire or find some extra time!

Yep, a lot of changes around here...I just keep operating though, business as usual for me.

Sugar free salted caramel breve - Shut your face! Need one of this right now.

When you go to Nespresso I think you'll no look back. There's better out there but the consistency is comforting and it's of a good overall quality.

I had just picked up my strap-on and glanced up at the screen and saw "lubricated"...hand in hand and then coffee in hand...I had to re-focus my mind rapidly, and adjust my thoughts.
(my strap-on windliss holder btw)

👌I'm now centred!

Friendships like those are great Galen, and I'm sure your friend will be excited to see you.
Coffee dates/meet-ups (even for tea drinkers) are the best social outings for all friendships, and one in a natural environment is top!

I pity you for having to drink instant coffee, I hope it's not the 3-in-1.
Maybe in the future you'll take a large flask of real coffee?

Damn it...You had me fooled for a bit...See how easily someone can turn around one's clickbaityness? Lol. Well played Milz.

I'm thinking of getting a little Nespresso machine for my desk...That'll solve the issue at work.

Haha...you know I wouldn't miss that!🤣

A small Nespresso machine sounds great...I hope you won't end up giving away all your coffee though:)

Yes, theft of one's Nespresso pods is a factor, however you know me, I build a good shield wall and always keep my sword and axe to hand. 😬

🤣 I concur the use of both.

"He who is caught mistreating my property, shall lose a finger; Caught stealing, you shall lose a hand." AMEN!

It's a practice that has always worked well for me Camille - Deals with those who dare to fuck with my shit and sends a message to those who are thinking about it. Lol.

LOL! Yeah, simple! No complications, just action 🤣

I totaly agree meeting friends to Talk doesnt depend on the quality of coffee or if it's coffee at all. It's just about the time we spend together. This time has other quality than going to restaurant or beeing active together. "Going for a coffee" means "hey let's take time to Talk and just spend time" without a goal.

The other story about your job .... ;-) if there is only instand coffee the job isnt worth it how many money ever they give you ;-)
Option 1 - leave the job
Option 2 - buy a good coffee machine for the Office
:-)

You always tend to summarise things nicely; it shows intelligence.

Now...The options. Both have been weighed and measured with option two looking like the more likely to be deployed at this stage. I'll keep you posted.

I haven't taken coffee for some time now due to the burning sensation in my heart l had about 2 years ago and the doctor said caffeine. I read a lot about caffeine and decided to stop. Those days back in school l will wake up in the night to have coffee when l feel a little cool and a little while, l get better.

I'm getting lubricated right now as we speak....

Okay, that really doesn't sound great. Sounds awful actually 😂🤣

Quality coffee does make a big difference. I find you don't notice though until you switch back to the lesser quality stuff. If you drink lesser quality regularly you get used to it and don't even notice. But when you drink good quality and you switch back to poor quality it can be really nasty lol. It's the same with beer. I can't drink any domestic premium beers anymore, like Budwiser, Coors, Miller, Molson... any of those "premium" brands. You can taste the additives and all the extra crap in them. One thing I haven't done with coffee though is switched to whole beans and grinding it myself. I've been told by quite a few people that it makes a huge difference. I'm currently searching for a grinder but dragging my feet with it lol

😂

Yes, that first line of yours...Sounds interesting indeed. I'm glad a few are having fun with my title and first lines. ✅

You're right about the coffee, it's what we become conditioned to. Same with the beer thing, certain foods also. Once one experiences the glory of something awesome the mundane is no longer acceptable.

I've never ground my own coffee but used to buy fresh-ground coffee and there's nothing quite as good. I'll admit that Nespresso is not as good but damn it comes close.

Enjoy your lubrication. 😊

Yeah Nespresso is pretty good. They much seal is right after grinding it.

Yep, and the water delivery is controlled and even which makes a difference I think. It delivers repeatable results and whilst there maybe better coffee consistency is valuable.

I would be picking up two coffees to go! I have to say that warming them up has got to be better than instant!

Indeed Swigles, indeed.
