It's been another week of inclement weather in the UK, wet, windy cold and even frost on many mornings. Surprisingly in the mountains of Cumbria they even had enough snow to open the Ski lifts - they missed the winter season because of Covid restrictions but this was a welcome opportunity for some hardy British skiers.
Today however it dried up a little, and there was even a little sun. Here I popped down to Stod Fold bar and food - you can just see the black tents outside for the required outdoor dining until 17th May. I wasn't eating or drinking though - delivering a fresh coffee order. @whiterosecoffee never rests, Sunday deliveries and yesterday morning I was down in Brighouse dropping off a coffee order placed 8pm Friday night by Mamil the cycle repair shop and coffee bar. Delivery within 14 hours of order, I'm nearly beating Amazon Prime!
Stod Fold is down in the Dean Clough mill complex, part of Halifax's industrial heritage these big mills were once used for manufacture of carpets by one of the worlds biggest manufacturer at the time Crossley Carpets. But as manufacture moved to different parts of the world offering better pricing, the mills fell empty during the 70's. In 1983 to save them from dereliction they were converted to office space, combining a community of eating places, a holiday inn, and a gym. @stephenwood know's what the holiday inn is like as he stopped there during last years Hive UK meet up.
Just a little idea how vast this complex is, you can see the holiday inn middle left. Stod Fold is way back to the right.
Here if we looked left we would see Stod Fold as in the first picture, and if you look carefully in the distance you can see the blue bar of the holiday inn. A massive complex and a large part of it is office space, which in 2019 was packed with many thousands of workers for insurance companies, banks and like. There was a massive captive audience making it a lucrative spot for the eating and drinking establishments based here. But thanks to Covid those office workers had to work from home, and many of the businesses paying for rented office space have since realised now they have invested in home working technology - why really go back?
The good news is the blossom is out, summer on the way and we can in the UK at least look forward to the odd sunny day between rain and clouds.
All sorts of flowers are popping up now, like these lovely blue bells.
Splashes of colour are in abundance on the tree's and shrubs.
And despite the late frosts we have had this year they are still around in abundance.
So with summer on the way, and eating in from the 17th May we do have some things to look forward to in the UK - although I fear Covid will never totally loose it's grip on the new normal of masks and social distancing will be here to stay.

C0ff33a Prime....🤣 You are starting to take over my crown as workaholic.
Same goes here with all the empty commercial real-estate. I dropped a friend off at Penn Station in NYC a few weeks back. More then half the businesses are closed and the buildings empty. It’s a shame. Don’t know if it will ever get back to how it was. If it does it might not be in my lifetime. Nice blooms.

You are right the pandemic has foundationally changed the way we live and work for the foreseeable future!
Oh and I just realized I forgot to post it in your community like I usually do. Haste makes wate for me, thats what I get for trying to do things quickly!

Thanks for inspiring some happy memories of Dean Clough Mills in Halifax. Several years ago I did occasional database work for one of the organisations there.
