For this weekend's #sublimesunday post, as inspired by @c0ff33a, we took a road trip across the Mississippi River into nearby Iowa. I had wanted to show an area of Native American earthworks I discovered last spring to my family. After a decent road trip along a Great River road, we found our way to the Fish Farm Mounds state preserve.

The area features around thirty conical mounds that archaeologists estimate were constructed from 100 BC to 700 AD. There are a few trails that lead up the surrounding bluffs, but we decided to take in the actual earthworks.

The area was very serene. Lots of quiet and a very large sense of peace. Despite a state highway less than a mile away, one really didn't notice the traffic. It was almost as if you were standing in a different time period.

This entire area is rich in Native American history. If one slows down to read all of the state's historical markers, one would be surprised at the number of stories that once resided in this area. Unfortunately, a lot of it involved violence and human tragedy. The earth here could probably write pages of tragedy if it could...

Yet enough of that! Today was all about enjoying the moment and attempting to embrace a new look on life! With some family support, all should be good, too, moving forward.

Thanks for stopping by to take a look at my #sublimesunday share! I hope everyone else had a wonderful weekend too, and a great start to the new week.
