Hamsters are cute - Austrian Wildlife Pictures

I really like the rodents like squirrels, ground squirrels and especially hamsters. And I am looking forward to encounter a Hazel dormouse someday but till now I haven't found one, eventhoug they should live here in Austria on some spots. But I assume they are so very shy that it is almost impossible to find one, but I keep looking. The hamsters here in these pictures are from Vienna where I also take the pictures of the ground squirrels. It is always a great pleasure watching them when they come out in the evening, and every time I hope there is still enough light to get some great pictures like these, but this is not always the case. I also had days waiting for them to come out early but they showed up when the light was already too bad for some pictures. So there is always a lot of luck involved to still have enought light for great pictures.

I really like doing some pictures there with the hamster and also meeting some friends from Vienna, and we always go for a nice meal in the evening and a talk afterwards before we head home again. It is nice to be able to have a little chit chat with friends and get the newest updates from them. This next few days I am going on a photography trip to Lower Austria for some birdphotography and we will meet a friend there that we met up there 2 years ago and since he has a little fishing hut on a spot where a lot of eagle can be found I am already a little bit in anticipation of the next days and I hope we have some luck to see the eagles and can take some pictures of these beautiful birds.

Those wonderful plump cheeks!😊

Yes they are really cute

Myself I do not have photo of European Hamster. Nice creature.
He's said to be angry and combative 😅

They do a lot of fighting, sometimes you can see one with only one eye or a bitten ear.

I've never seen hamsters in the wild before! Only as pets. Thanks for sharing!

Also never seen wild ones. Incredible, huh?

Yeah! Their faces look so different when they have to worry about getting something to eat without getting eaten.

Very serious hamsters!

But it must be a scary world when you're only so liddle

Really interesting to see wild hamsters

Who knew?

You must have a lot of patience to have snapped these!

Yes but lying down on the ground and waiting is easy if you know where they come out. Just observe the holes and wait till evening. And hope there is still enough light when they come out.

Wow

Now it sounds like the perfect job for me!

:D
