Getting Started with Hive - Welcome!!

My friend and neighbor has decided to join Hive and I told her I'd write her some pointers for getting started. I figured writing it up on here would maybe help others as well! I have been with Hive/Steemit for a few years, so hopefully you can glean some wisdom from things I have also learned!

1. Be creative
When you write a post or comment, be sure to make it stand out from the crowd. Include a great photo, funny story, or interesting information. You never know whose eye your post might catch, so make it interesting!

2. Upvote with about 20% of your power daily
You're looking for posts with few votes, not much time, and a big payout if you're looking to curate something off the posts. The author gets a percentage of the payout and everyone who likes the post also shares a percentage of the payout, so you want them to have a bigger payout and fewer likes. Your voting power will refresh itself in a 24 hour period if you only use 20% of your power. Each 100% upvote will take about 2% of your voting power.

3. Write about what you know!
People love learning about what you're passionate about. You are the expert in your life, so tell us about it. If you're learning something new, write a post about it. If you read a post and have something to add to the conversation, be sure to leave a comment. Always include a photo as well (and use a free online photo (like pixabay) if you aren't using your own photo.

4. Post in communities
Figure out which community your post bests fits into and post it there. Make sure to reblog it to your blog as well. There are basically communities for everything you could imagine. You can join as many communities as you want! Be sure to check the community rules as some have different requirements. The more members in the community, the more likely it will be seen by more people! Also use good tags for your post.

5. Be sociable
Don't just come onto the platform and upvote but leave quality comments on posts. Follow people and be engaging on their posts. The more you engage, the more likely it is that someone will upvote your comment, visit your blog, or follow your future posts.

6. Enjoy
Hive is a lot of fun! Spending a little time daily engaging with others or writing a post takes time, but it gets better as you meet others and get involved in different communities.

What other pointers do you guys have??
