Implementing social media education as a course in the high school curriculum may be a wise decision. This would entail devoted teachers helping pupils through the difficulties of social media, its possible dangers, and its influence on mental health.
There are many benefits that students would gain if probably it is implemented, firstly it would enhance Digital Literacy, which would help Students to gain a deeper understanding of social media platforms, their algorithms, and how to navigate them effectively.
Another point on my list is Online Safety, teachers could teach students about online etiquette, cyberbullying prevention, and how to protect themselves, many people are victims of cyberbullying and it has sent many of them to an early grave, but preparing them for the future would never be a problem, students will know how to tackle any online problems and this would guarantee a better life for them on social media. The curriculum could cover critical issues such as cyberbullying, fake news, and mental health impacts. Educating students on these aspects could help them navigate social media more safely and mindfully
Also, I believe this will limit the rate at which people die of depression and it will stabilize their mental health when they are fully prepared for it rather than tamper with their psychology, students would learn how to critically evaluate online content.
Most of us are ignorant of social media, many celebrities are afraid of using social media to avoid what people will say, and many people are on social media just to bully and bring other people down, they are after their mistakes and how to tarnish their image but if there is a course to study and know more about social media then students will know the benefits and how to thread carefully on any social media platform.
Social media is never all about chatting, there are so many things we can achieve through social media, there are people who make millions of dollars every month, and social media has gone far beyond just replying to messages and chatting with people or checking for people's mistakes, learning more about social media will expose us to so many benefits that we can achieve on social media. A social media course could empower students with the skills to use platforms effectively, enhancing their content creation and online presence management. It would serve as a tool for learning, fostering engagement, and educational collaboration.
In this generation, everything that has advantages also gives birth to disadvantages, introducing social media as a course can affect students' performance during class, it would increase screen time, the course could inadvertently increase students' screen time, contributing to issues like eye strain and reduced physical activity because they would always be on their screen to practice one or two things that are been taught in school, more so there might not be enough teachers who are capable of handling this course. There is concern that the focus on social media in the classroom might worsen and make students lose focus and this can lead to addiction or social comparison if not addressed properly.

Cyber bullying has been a recurring issue for as long as I can remember, and you're right, we have to teach our children a safe way to surf the internet.
We all have to change with time if we want our future generation to develop then we must teach them in school because the future is digital and after learning it will be easy.
