Decentralizing Scientific Publishing with Pevo Science

Long ago, I posted some thoughts about how our Hive Blockchain could be used in the science world. A world that is focused in a loop of centralized publishers where scientists are producers of scientific material that is only profitable by these publishers. Scientist need to publish so they can keep scientific grants alive in their research institutes. But here a decentralized and transparent blockchain, there was always this potential to be used as a publisher without middlemen asking for fees. At that time, early 2022, there was already an idea that I was unaware of, which I discovered about a bit later, called @pevo.science.

The idea existed and it was presented, if I am not mistaken, when we were still on Steemit. The idea continued and was presented to me, one year ago. But now a kickoff has been initiated for the implementation. Exactly 5 days ago, it was launched in this publication . I am very excited about it, What I understand is that this is an old personal project from @pharesim and at least seeing it alive gives me hope. Hive can be used as a way to publish science.

I wish I could do more for the project, but at least I can be the guinea pig and test some functionalities. I logged in with my keychain, like anyone can do it, if they have a Hive account. It looks like that the sign-up is also getting ready, so anyone without a Hive account will be able to sign up and get a Hive account. But you still need to get creditation to get ready to publish or participate as a reviewer. No, you don't need to pay any money to join; it is just a matter of validating your credentials, such as your institution, and linking your ORCID account.

On top of that I just tested today the bridging of existing published articles. It is just a type of synchronization of publicly available articles that you have through DOI. It worked smoothly. And If someone bridges an article that I am a co-author of, I can also claim authorship. The front-end is getting rounded and cool as you can see bellow.

The project is promising to bring scientists a good alternative so they can escape a bit from the regular loop of science. There is a huge demand for this project; the only question that only time will answer is whether we are going to make this project visible and adopted by academia. That is the big question for most of the Hive projects is how to make mass adoption? How make people to escape their regular workflows of publishing? Well, I will continue hyping and maybe someone will listen to me and at least try it!

Bem, vou continuar divulgando e talvez alguém me ouça e pelo menos experimente!

That sounds so cool! I love it!

It is something new on Hive... and something that is related to one of my dreams for the blockchain! I hope that there are more people around who can help @pharesim to make this rocket get more fuel to take off. It just needs to get in the ears of those who work with that daily!

Not just new, but useful! 😁

Hey loved the plot behind this project, as a mathematician myself, I found this project very useful and maybe I'll publish some pre-print in which I was working the recent times. Thanks for share and I wish the best for this project to all the dev team behind.

Regards.

If you want more info you can click in the post that I cited, you can join the discord of the project and check out the pevo website =)

Indeed there is requirement for validation and accountability of who uses it, we don't want weirdos spreading crap around... But with scientific stuff there should always be some kind of review I guess, misinformation is easy to spread without controls

So the idea of the project is giving accreditation based in academic history right? but that it for sure doesn't avoid bad and weird scientists, since they are all around hehe. That is a bias that even big journals suffer a bit once in a while. But thats why it isn't just one person doing the review to avoid that type of problem

Sounds like a viable solution; very interesting idea! Couldn't find it on HiveProjects, though.

Not sure how projects are added on there... :-/

usually @guiltyparties that add them there I think!
