Many people have experienced fake news that might have caused them harm or even put them in trouble.My experience was about an examination I missed. But to frank, I honestly don't know why people pass information that they are not even a percent sure is true. These kind of news really affect people and can even make someone to lose an opportunity. The story begins...
When I was writing my BECE in my Junior secondary school, I received a fake news concerning our exam that lasted for a week and was supposed to end on Wednesday. After writing Tuesday's paper, we all went home.The next day, when I was about to prepare, my classmate came to my house and told me that she came from school to pass an information to me. She told me that the exam has been postponed from 8:00am to 3:30pm. I thanked her for the info and stayed back.
Immediately it clocked 3:00pm, I went to school in order to relax before the exam starts. When I arrived, I discovered that it was only the girl that delivered the news to me and, like half of my classmates were present. I joined them waiting for others, but when thirty minutes elapsed and not even another student joined us, we went to the principal's office to ask whether the exam will still hold. He clearly told us that the exams had been long written in the morning and that the scripts had been submitted to the marking officials. The moment I heard that, I didn't know what to do, whether I should start crying or what? We begged our principal but there was nothing she could do about it,and that we have no other option but to rewrite the exam next year.
I then wanted to know the source of the news so, I asked the girl that delivered the news to me and she told me that she was actually on her way to school when she overheard students from other school saying it, she didn't confirm the news from out school management and came directly to inform me about it. She apologized for her mistake, but, I didn't blame her much because I should have verified what she told me. I told her to be careful on how she circulate certain news. That actually taught me a very good lesson, not to believe news so easily. We did rewrite the exam and as God may have it, I passed.
So my dears, I will advise you all to beware of FAKE NEWS and ensure that before you act according to any news that you heard, you should confirm it from a good source.

In recent years, the prevalence of fake news has exploded. With the rise of social media, it's easier than ever for fake news to spread like wildfire. And because fake news is often designed to be sensational and clickable, it can be hard to spot.

Indeed... Just because we hear something serious does not mean we should act on it at once. We need to make sure it is from verifiable source.
