Open water swimming? I wont Ever!

The benefits outweighs the risks for me, besides there is the second option of a swimming pool

WHY wont I, ever?
My reasons, stated below, alongside with what should be done for those that want to 👇

Restricted Visibility: The water in lakes and ponds can be cloudy, hiding hazards such as rocks, logs, and uneven surfaces. Reduced vision can also make it difficult to see if a child is falling. If lifeguards are present, ask where the safest area to swim is. When entering unfamiliar water, enter feet first and exit slowly.

Depth, Distance and Slope: Unlike a pool, open water rarely has depth markings, making it difficult to see if children are fooling around.
When swimming in open water, it can also be difficult to tell the distance from the shore. While there may be a gradual drop when entering the water near shore, further out there can be a sudden drop. If you're looking for a safe place to swim, choose a designated swimming area and look for signs that warn of potential hazards.

Currents and Tides - Currents in rivers, streams, and creeks can be rapid and unpredictable . While some strong currents such as rapids are visible, others can flow beneath the surface of the water.
In oceans or lakes, waves and currents can be dangerous. Families should avoid swimming on unsupervised beaches or in areas not designated for swimming. Before allowing children to swim in open water, make sure they know how to deal with a breaking wave and how to escape a tide or strong current.

Water Temperature: Open water is typically cooler than the water in the pool, which can affect a child's ability to swim. Also, falling into cold water can cause shock, which can lead to panic and even drowning.
When participating in boat cruises or other water activities, families should remember to adapt to water temperature, not air temperature, and always wear a US Coast Guard-approved life jacket.

Weather and seasonal variations: Climate changes can make open water more dangerous. Heavy rain and flooding can create strong currents, rapidly changing the depth and clarity of the water.
Families should also be aware of canals and man-made reservoirs, which can be empty one minute and filled with water the next.

If planning an excursion that involves the open water, check the weather and water conditions before you leave home and again when you arrive. Watch out for changes on site and always stay out of the water if you hear thunder or see lightning

PS: I am not aginst open water swimming, not at all, but If you love it, please do it in a safe way and dont do it alone, just in case, it has really claimed lifes, as a matter of fact, 79% of all drownings occured in open water. Stay safe!!! and enjoy

Better safe than sorry

Wow, you should try swimming one of these days and thank me later, but emphatically not in open water. A Swimming people will and always will feel good, besides it more hygenic than deeping your body into the unknown.

Ha! Ha! Ha! 🤣🤣 Going by your reasons, one should never dare open water swimming, but on a serious note you are right nevertheless others do it daily and they are still alive meanwhile you have totally convinced me and I am fully at your side, swimming is something I have been scared of right from childhood. And if It happens that I must swim, there are swimming pools everywhere. Thanks for sharing this with us.

I also won't try swimming in an open water (like rivers and seas), I prefer a swimming pool because I know I can easily get out when there's danger. I have heard so many stories of people drowning in the sea, that alone has made me afraid of the sea

Yeah, for me swimming in an open water is like seeing danger in white and black and asking it to give you a hug. Playing with fire that might eventually burn you.

Now, you make me scared of swimming. I think swimming pools should still do.

Swimming pool will not just do, as a matter of fact, it will do a lot.
Man you have to know your life is too precious than to gamble with it in open water you understand? We hardly get a second chance at life.

Yeah, open water is really dangerous. We only have one life, we should guard it well.
