It's great to have you once again here on my blog. ๐Ÿ˜Š ๐Ÿ˜ƒ ๐Ÿ˜€
I hope you are having an awesome day? Feel free to stick around; we have so much fun especially today that I'll be sharing my wonderful journey of being an amateur in kitchen affairs โ€” cooking to being very good at it.

I'm sure you quite understand who an amateur isโ€” someone who is considered to be learning a skill, or job, a newbie who hasn't mastered the craft well enough to do it without assistance.. So there you have it. Meanwhile, a professional is just the exact opposite of it.

They say that every journey begins with a single step and every expert was once a newbie. Well that isn't different from my case.

It is traditionally considered that the African girl child must be able to cook having being brought up well by her mother if not, she wouldn't have a suitor. Moreover due to education and technology, things are evolving as many women who do not know how to cook but employ others to do so for her are happily living with their families though, the culture is still held very high in so many parts of Africa, especially Nigeria.

How It All Started

I grew up with my Mother who is a Caterer who did all the cooking which I had no interest in . On some occasions, I watched as she did it, ran errands here and there for her, on other occasions I escaped it like I was escaping a serious punishment because I saw cooking that way but I preferred baking which I do not have much interest in now... (haha, the irony of life ๐Ÿคฃ)

Sometimes, my Dad would ask me to prepare fresh fish peppersoup for him and I will use almost 5 litres of water, finish whatever seasoning I could find in my Mum's kitchen cupboard, added all the pepper and salt...It was horrible at first and my Dad knew it but he would smile and eat it joyfully to encourage me while my Mum would scream at me for emptying her kitchen because of a small pot of peppersoup.

Other times, it was noodles and the story was the same. On one occasion,I burnt the while noodles that there was nothing left to eat from it...

It was this way until I learnt that my friends who were in my age group could cook different dishes, that even their Mums left the cooking for them. I was then challenged to learn and practise this wonderful craft but my Mum had soon gotten used to being the cook of the house that is was hard for her to adjust to let her amateur daughter take over so I mostly watched her keenly as she cooked.

Not to long after, I was done with my Secondary School (High school) and went to go stay with my Uncle. This was when I really started learning and practising cooking.

I remember the first time I prepared native soup. It was really a great accomplishment for me except for the fact that it was too salty.

I kept on learning and practising even from my Aunties who I stayed with, my friends, of course my amazing elder sister, as I got admission I continued and now I can cook several dishes in several ways with my eyes closed. not bragging, I actually can ๐Ÿ˜Š

My parents love my cooking now compared to when I was indirectly, unknowingly amd innocently attempting to poison them with my amateur meals. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

It's being a amazing journey for me. I learnt that cooking is science and science is about putting two and two together to get a result, it's about combining tastes, colours and that's how I do it now.

Do you have a similar experience of growing from a newbie to a pro? I'd love to know. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Till next time...

This was lovely to read๐Ÿ™‚
Learning how to cook is not easy at all๐Ÿ˜…

I had a similar experience too. The first time I cooked stew was funny. My mum travelled and left me, the Ada, to cook Sunday rice and stew. I had never cooked it before, I was very scared.
I had to call her on the phone to explain every single step to me. I ended burning it a little but, it was nice. Miracle no dey tire Jesus๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜….

Oh well dear, thank God you've learnt it now and you're a pro. Your dad is a Gee for not complaining about the food.
