GIVING EXCUSES OR STAYING DISCIPLINED || YOUR FUTURE DEPENDS ON KNOWING THIS!!!

in Hive Learners2 years ago

You must agree with me that one of the toughest things is being disciplined. Deciding to not do what your whole body wants to do only because you know the effects of what it may cause in future.

The whole idea of discipline is not for the reason for the benefit now, but for the reason for the benefit of the future. You put yourself in a situation where you ignore what you want to do the most just to have the best results in the future. Let me give you a quick scenario of what I mean:

Imagine taking an obese man, who is trying to lose a lot of weight and stay healthy but he has a great love for constant eating most especially eating junk. He doesn't wish to be obese and dreams of a slimmer body with abs.

If you are to advise such a man, you would tell him to stop eating those junks and go to the gym right?

This is where the challenge lies, it is easy to say you want something but attaining that leads to a high level of discipline; for him to stop doing what he actually loves the most and start doing something he may probably don't like at all. Why?

untitled.gif
Powered by Tenor

It is not like as if stopping eating junk and going to the gym for one day would solve his whole issue but something he may have to stop for life and move on. This is going to be a definitely tough thing to do which is why I made my first statement at the beginning of this article: You must agree with me that one of the toughest things is being disciplined.

It is easier to give excuses, you know why? because the struggle is not involved. It only needs you to keep doing what you normally do and find something to blame for you not doing it. Excuses don't have a shape for one's future, it is just like one keeps moving around the same circles and not daring to find a direction or destination to target. No wonder they say:

No Pain, No Gain

Pain is an important factor in our growth in life and it definitely comes with one being disciplined. Being disciplined comes with other factors like consistency, perseverance and high self-esteem to keep doing what you don't like doing to achieve what you love.

untitled.gif

The idea is to always try to show up where or when you are needed. You should know that whatsoever you are targeting in life does require a huge effort from a single but instead little effort that comes consistently every day.

untitled.gif

Relating this to gym classes: No matter how much you work out on a single day, there would definitely be no progress to show forth if you don't come the next day. At the same time, no matter how little you work out, there would be significant progress if you show every day.

I want you to know this, it is easy to make excuses today but it makes life hard for you tomorrow, while it is hard to stay disciplined today but it makes life easier for you tomorrow. So you have to choose one?

Risk your future for today's enjoyment or instead, Bear the Sacrifice now to enjoy in the future. it is your decision to make.

I would love to know, have you been in a compromising situation of making hard choices of staying disciplined or giving an excuse? What are your thoughts on this topic, what would you like to add up on giving excuses and staying disciplined? I would appreciate your comments by curating them. Thank you!

I want you to know this, it is easy to make excuses today but it makes life hard for you tomorrow, while it is hard to stay disciplined today but it makes life easier for you tomorrow. So you have to choose one?

Wow, this is a raw truth!

Of course, excuses cannot pay the bill. We need to leave our comfort zone, get ourselves disciplined, feel the hard part of life, and smile tomorrow.

There is no magic to making it through legal means without adding discipline.

Take for instance, before I joined hive, I gave my cousin's brother a bunch of excuses why I cannot be here. I wouldn't know what to write plz, how will I develop a content? How do I get the topic? Please, bro, I can't do this...I don't know how to go about writing plenty things🤩🤩🤩🤩🙈🙈. These were my excuses but then, I had to discipline my mind and my body, put consistency and perseverance in learning how to write and the difference is clear today compare to when I started. I also look up to a brighter future if I don't give up.

Smiles. I am glad you have yourself time to learn. The same goes to me, I have myself a lot of excuses why I did not join Hive because I wasn't ready to be disciplined. But since I changed my mindset and stayed consistent. I am practically enjoying life at the moment!

Yeah, a willing-focused mind and consistency pays.

Exactly, the main reason it gets hard for us to discipline ourselves is because of self doubt and self defeat.

Nice contribution Ma'am 💕.

Just like my lecturer always say endure the pressure now and enjoy the pleasure later, then to enjoy the pleasure noe and suffer the pressure later.i totally agree with you it is very easy to make excuses not to do something, but the gospel truth is that the excuse you make today will be the repercussions tomorrow.

Short but precisely hitting. You made a good contribution to the post.

Your lecturer is a wise man. He spoke truth.

Thanks man,he is indeed a wise man

I'll have to write that down. Your lecturer for sure has experience and you were lucky to have remembered his words and share it with us.

Thank you 🥰.

That learning 101, if you don't remember you will fail. So we have no choice then to remember everything, thanks.

Oh that's really good.

You're welcome dear.

Thanks dear

The obese man makes me remember something about me too because I have in many ways been in a compromising situation and I will give you this scenario.

You know we ladies do expect our monthly flow right? It comes along with pains and every month, I keep getting sad because of the pain, even though I take drugs to ease it. I have been told many times to reduce my intake of sugar and being addicted to drugs might have effects on me. I didn't stop as I was so addicted to taking too much sugar since I love sweet things. At the end of the month, I face the pain and would tell myself “starting next month, I will stop taking sugar”. I still end up consuming much sugar until the end of last month, I made up my mind to discipline myself from taking anything sugar.
On the first and second day of this month, I couldn't resist the urge, but I closed my eyes and said “no more sugar” because, in one way or the other, these drugs I take every month to ease the pain have their side effects in the future, especially during labour. I had to stop sugar for this month as I don't want to keep getting addicted to drugs.

I disciplined myself and when the flow came, I didn't experience any pain at all and I was so happy. Now, no more sugar again 😅😅😅

One must be strongly determined and discipline him or herself if one wants a good result in the future.

Omoh, I am sure it would have not been easy for you trying to do away with those sweet things but I am glad you were disciplined with it and was able to phase through your challenge.

Determination is a key factor to all these stuffs. If not, OYO... the person would just keep saying it and would not put actions to play.

Na so e just be oo. I go, I go na just word. It's better we start doing something so that people we confirm it for us than for us to say it.

Action speaks louder than words they say!

Exactly, this is the English version 😂, don't mind me I'm still learning 😄.

That is it. We all must be determined and discipline ourselves. This is the only way to make a progress.

Eya, I understand. I've not experienced it that painful Sha but I know someone who has and it's still because of sweet and sugary food.

I'm glad you put your mind to it to change and you achieve your goal, that is what we call DISCIPLINE, in the end, there has to be good result.

First I want to say that I will not argue a single word of your writing, why? because I have proven it, a few days ago I made a post about "the biggest achievement in my life" there I told my experience and struggle to monetize my youtube channel, yup, that's right, I have tried to put the theory you mentioned above into practice, consistently, disciplined and sacrificed a lot of time, and the results were not in vain, I managed to shut the mouth of those who underestimated my struggle, and now I have managed to make my body shaped like an athlete, while they are still fat men who still consume garbage!

Sir @starstring01 I'm sure you've changed the mindset of a lot of people with all your quality posts, one of them is this post, it's all meat, and I've tasted it, I love your style of explaining things with metaphors, and that's one way to give people a hard slap to do it. out of the zone comfortable.

Respect my big role model

I wish you a speedy recovery and the disease never comes to you again!

Yeah true, building a youtube channel needs a lot of discipline and a determined mindset. I respect you for it.

I really appreciate you comments.. Thank you so much for stopping by.

Wow that's great. You made it in the end, I'm so proud of you.

Now you just need to stay consistent and focused.

I was going to say how did you that get picture of me swigging from a bottle, then i realised it wasnt beer so it could not possibly be me... lol

excellent insight to the human psyche though. thanks for sharing !hivebits !CTP

Being disciplined, I guess, is one thing everyone struggles with.

I always try to discipline myself in every area of my life, whether it is studying, practicing the drums, learning to sing, learning a new skill, or being productive in general.

Sometimes I simply don't get some things done, and sometimes I achieve my goal. It varies.

Even when you do something productive and you enjoy it, or at least it wasn't that bad. You might not come back to it for one reason or another.

But then, being disciplined is a feat everyone should strive to attain if you want to enjoy life.

Smiles... most times, the difficulty of things very on how much disciplined needs to the applied. The more harder or greater the goal is, the need for a stronger disciplined mindset.

Yes, definitely. That's how it is.

Brilliant words.

It's true, sometimes when we achieve something good we still don't get that motivation to continue. I just pray say nor be village people dey follow us that time, lol.

You're right, everyone needs to make discipline a part of them.

This table you're shaking is carrying plenty people; people like me. It is indiscipline I am dining with this period.

And the words you have spoken has given me half of what I need to fix it. Now, the other half is actually implementing it.

I check the udemy to see your progress on it and found that you haven't gone through anything yet. Was planning on messaging that if you need guidance or someone to reach to. I would make schedule for it.

By the way, I bought another course yesterday. Lucky you!

Really? I actually am now in section 5, and I should be closing with section 6 today as well.

I have many of the courses downloaded already and have been taking them. I have only been slow because of constraints either electricity, so I don't get enough power on my PC to use Sublime text to practice the codes.

I would make schedule for it.

Than you so much bro.

By the way, I bought another course yesterday. Lucky you!

😁
Yes, I have seen it. But it is JS, and I am yet to get there. But it's another addition...

Nah it's not JS. it's on html and CSS.

Good luck with implementing dear.

I'm not sure I understand.

I read Atomic Habits months ago and it says building your habit system is really one of the toughest things to do. It is because of our self-discipline. The book said we tend not to do the things that we know that are good for ourselves but we choose not to do them because it is difficult (e.g going to gym).

You said it all, man! Such a nice read:)

Thanks for sharing such resourceful content. I had a great read. Moreover, I appreciate your comment. They are of value. Thanks once again!

No worries!

Being disciplined is something that is hard for everyone but most times some people mistake being disciplined with being principled.

While growing up, we all have the way we were thought how to do things and with time, we create some principles for ourselves that might either be good or bad. And with time as we get wiser and learn more, we find out that some of our principles are unhealthy for us and even others but we find it hard to let go and that's because we are not disciplined.

The best way to stay disciplined is to put yourself in-check. What I mean is, tell someone you want to forgo an unhealthy habit and ask them to help you. This is only hard for people who have pride and those who are not willing to change.

You are right sir, making excuses can cause you to miss opportunities. Everyone has their own excuses, on one thing or the other.

My boss, let me know that, this phrase; "I cannot do something" should be in your mouth. Try to adventure into something that will tangible results tomorrow.

yeah, we should endeavor to give a try at things before making conclusions on whether we can or we can't. I never knew I would love writing until I gave it a thought to try.

Yes, I easily fall guilty of making conclusions 😏.

Hence the result of the post I wrote today

Yes that's true, I felt the connection, you are good man👍.

It's true for one to be disciplined, one must never give up, all you have to do is keep trying.

This is a pure truth! No pain, no gain. This made me remember my first secondary school leaving examination, i failed because i didn't discipline myself to read enough. The second time i enrolled and disciplined myself to read very well, i then can out in flying colours, successfully. Indeed discipline pays. Thanks for this writeup.

wow, we all have a story to share. Thanks for sharing yours. There is no gain if we don't accept the pain indeed.

 2 years ago (edited)

Yes, when it comes to discipline I'm sure everyone has a story to tell and you did a really good job getting us to say and also leave our contributions.

Thank you very much! I appreciate your kind words.

You're welcome Sir 🤭.

Hmm, your story is almost similar to mine but in my case, despite the hard work I thought I had put in, I still passed mathematics instead of a distinction or a merit 😢.

Wise words my man!!! No pain no gain - This is the mantra for life. 🚀🚀
