Moving from WhatsApp to Telegram

Moving into 2021 has been an amazing rollercoaster journey, we have entered some sort of internet twilight zone.

My family, siblings, extended family and friends have all joined WhatsApp when it first became available, yes we all paid the $1 fee.

When Facebook bought WhatsApp, I was the only one who pushed for trying a different App. Majority decided to keep using WhatsApp until today, one of my brothers told us to watch the following Youtube video: Facebook Prepares to Monetize Your Text. After some discussion we decided to look for an alternative, as some family members were already using the 2 Apps discussed in the video Signal(2) and Telegram(2) the choice came down to these two.

On the toss of a coin Telegram won, so over the next couple of days we will install Telegram.org and remove WhatsApp from all our devices. I have installed this on both my Android Mobile Phone and Linux Mint Desktop computer, a fairly simple process.

1st message recieved: Telegram Welcome

Created 2 groups(private), added family members who already have Telegram installed, sent a few messages, uploaded a video. Everything worked fine so far, as all normal messenger apps should.

If what happened to Parler happens to Telegram, then I have lost faith with the internet, where you are forced to use the existing BigTech Apps. If you move to a different App it gets shut down.
