Hi everyone !
A little flashback with this last walk in the South of France, with a dry climate as ever ! I went back to explore these ruins of a medieval castle clinging to its rocky outcrop, at the back of the small village of Gigors. The view is really amazing from up there and the climb has the advantage of being short but intense, so you get to the top quickly !
This is the view from the top of the "Trois Becs" and part of the Drôme valley. The first picture was taken during one of my visits in March 2021 and the second one is this year, in August 2022. Of course, these are two completely different seasons, but it's still quite striking... I would like to write an article about my ideas and convictions about ecology... To be continued !
We climb through a forest of pines and oaks, in the light of the still warm and sunny end of the day. Halfway up, you come across the first walls of this 10th century castle. According to the information I have been able to find, the Savel castle was occupied by the lords and their families for at least three hundred years. Unfortunately, there are not many ruins left in very good condition, but if you walk around the small plateau, you realize that the site must have been quite large.
Here we are, arriving at the main part of the ruins, all at sunset with this beautiful light irrigating the old stones. Despite the fact that the whole thing is in bad shape, I particularly like this place. First of all, it would be more difficult to access it if it was still full and maybe even paying. And it always makes me think about the future of our civilization, of our world in 1000 years. Each time, it always generates beautiful meditative thoughts that some might find distressing, but which make me feel better about my role, my place and my impact on this Earth, in this Universe. And you, what do ruins in general evoke for you ? Anguish, fear, hope ?
After this good tour and this philosophical stop, we set off again along this small path lined with low walls which must have been one of the access doors to the castle. We are on this plateau of basalt and limestone bedrock, the remains of ancient oceans from time immemorial. Because of this particular geological composition for the region, there are many chestnut trees, a tree that I have always liked very much - both for its shape and for its fruit. From here, you enter the forest...
C’est un sentier forestier bien agréable, surtout à ce moment de la journée lorsque les derniers rayons du soleil filtrent à travers les branches. On trouve de nouveau des pins qui tapissent le sol de leurs fruits. Dès que j’entre dans une forêt, c’est un songe qui commence… Quelque chose qui est bien au dessus et au delà du niveau de l’individu. Des racines venants de nos ancêtres, transmises à travers les générations d’êtres vivants, organiques et humains.
After leaving the forest, we find the tarmac road which winds down to the bottom of the valley, with beautiful views. In particular this one on the valley of the Gervanne (the small river which gives its name to the valley which it dug during millenia.
Let's finish with this hut which also brings us back to the time of childhood, to the time of carelessness, which we can keep alive like this innocent imagination... Even if it can be complicated in this world of bullies ^^

Salut à tous !
Un petit retour en arrière avec cette dernière promenade dans le Sud de la France, avec un climat sec comme jamais ! Je suis reparti explorer ces ruines d’un château médiéval accrochées à son piton rocheux, à l’arrière du petit village de Gigors. La vue est réellement imprenable depuis là-haut et la montée a l’avantage d’être courte mais intense, on arrive vite en haut du coup !
Voilà la vue du haut sur les « Trois Becs » et une partie de la vallée de la Drôme. La première image à été prise lors d’une de mes visites en mars 2021 et la seconde, c’est cette année, en août 2022 donc. Bien-sûr, il s’agit de deux saisons complètement différentes mais c’est quand même, c’est assez frappant… J’ai d’ailleurs envie de faire un article à propos de mes idées et convictions à propos de l’écologie… À suivre donc !
On monte à travers une forêt de pins et de chênes, à la lumière de la fin de journée encore chaude et ensoleillée. À mi-parcours, on rencontre les premiers murs d’enceinte de ce château du Xème siècle. Le château du Savel occupé, selon les informations que j’ai pu trouvées, par les seigneurs et leurs familles durant au moins trois cents ans. Malheureusement, il ne reste plus beaucoup de ruines en très bon état, mais en parcourant un le petit plateau, on se rend compte que le site devait être assez vaste.
Voilà, l’arrivée au plus gros des ruines, le tout au couchant du soleil avec cette belle lumière qui irrigue les vieilles pierres. Malgré le fait que l’ensemble soit en mauvais état, j’aime particulièrement cet endroit. Déjà, ce serai plus difficile d’y accéder si c’était encore complet et peut-être même payant. Et puis ça me fait toujours réfléchir au devenir de notre civilisation, de notre monde d’ici 1000 ans. À chaque fois, cela génère toujours de belles pensées méditatives et que certains pourraient sûrement trouver angoissantes, mais qui moi m’allège sur mon rôle, ma place et mon impact sur cette Terre, dans cet Univers. Et vous, que vous évoque des ruines en général ? De l’angoisse, de la peur, de l’espoir ?
Après ce bon tour et cet arrêt philosophique, on repart par ce petit chemin bordé de murets qui devait être une des portes d’accès au château. On est sur ce plateau de basalte et soubassement de calcaire, restes des anciens océans des temps immémoriaux. Du fait de cette composition géologique particulière pour la région, on trouve beaucoup de châtaigniers, un arbre que j’ai toujours beaucoup apprécié - tant pour sa forme que pour ses fruits. À partir de là, on rentre dans la forêt…

Après être sortis de la forêt, on retrouve la route goudronnée qui serpente jusqu’en bas de la vallée, avec de beaux points de vue. Notamment celui-ci sur la vallée de la Gervanne (la petite rivière qui donne son nom à la vallée qu’elle a creusée durant des millénaires.
Terminons par cette cabane qui elle aussi, nous ramène aux temps de l’enfance, au temps de de l’insouciance, que l’on peut garder vivace comme cette innocente imagination… Même si ça peut être compliqué dans ce monde de brutes ^^
